Chicken chow mien has no flavor I mean zero. Pork fried rice isn’t much better. Sweet and sour pork was ok though.
Another co worker didn’t get the memo and tried this place. I sampled their food to confirm that my experience was not a one off- Nope! This is the worst Chinese food… Scratch that. This is the worst food I’ve ever had. The co worker agreed.14 Nov, 2014I went here with friends and we all agreed. This is the worst Chinese place I have ever been to. Maybe it’s changed hands since the high ratings? I don’t know. McDonald’s would have sat better and been better. This place is awful. I’ve never said that about any place before but this one is really really heinous. Will never go back. Ppl were nice but food is sooooooo bad.
Don’t you dare try this place. I have never before written a review on this or any other site because none have ever been so good or so bad as to warrant it. I have found my muse in Paul’s restaurant (and I use the term restaurant lightly).I ordered dinner for three for delivery, chicken chowmein, beef chop suey sweet and sour pork, and one other dish (I’ve forgotten what it was supposed to be and can’t identify what lies before me), as well as wonton soup.I didn’t expect much, plain old chinese delivery is fine by me but what I received is an absolute insult to the entire culinary institution. The sweet and sour pork is dry, chewy, and tastes like cigarette butts. The wonton soup is sweet and sour soup that looks, and tastes, like someone threw up in it. The chop suey isn’t very good but it’s edible while chowmein is dry, cold, and flavourless, though also edible. The final dish is some sort of egg concoction that eludes identification. I love eggs in all their various forms and consider myself a somewhat adventurous gastronome as i have eaten all sorts of unidentifiable foods from all over the world. This, however; I could not bring myself to try.I may not know you but as members of the same race living in the same period of time I already have enough respect for you to implore you, for your own good, do not order food from this place!
Don’t look too closely. After changing hands multiple times, Paul’s has pretty much kept to it’s roots but with a few more Asian choices on the menu. However, I have to agree with the other reviewers that it’s a hole in the wall, and so their tables aren’t wiped down too well, with bits of food remnants and stains on the table, and a good layer of dust on the windowsill. Still, the food is good enough and one of the only ones of it’s kind in the neighbourhood that it’s worth a try. If you’re really bothered by the decor then at least you have X-Site next door for a backup plan.
Best on Hastings in Burnaby. We have frequented many restaurants in North Burnaby for many years and the latest revival of Paul’s has been a great addition to the options. The food is fresh and staff is friendly. Service is quick and the large screen TV will be tuned to your favourite show if requested. I’d give it a 4 stars for a budget eatery,
