Small restaurant that specializes in Chinese Hakka cuisine. It is tucked away in a small plaza on Westminster Hwy. Seems like it is run by a couple with husband in the kitchen and wife as a server…food did come a tad slow but we were in no rush. Salted chicken was tender and juicy. Deep fried intestine could have been in the fryer for longer as it was a bit soggy. Braised pork with preserved vegetables was lacking some flavour but the pork was tender..portion was a bit small though. Braised tofu was a bit dry..it was stuffed with some sort of meat stuffing on top of a bed of blanched beansprouts. Hit the jackpot when I found a piece of hair and small fish bone in the dish. Braised pigs feet was tender, again lacking some flavour. The egg tofu, eggplant and scallop hot pot was tasty and probably was my favourite dish of the night. Overall dishes are hit and miss.
This is a small store, and the way the owner had the tables and chairs laid out is just terrible. I mean they fit, but with actual people occupying the place? nahhh.. it’ll just be super squishy. We ordered the Dinner for Three. The Salted chicken wasn’t bad as well. It was half a chicken, but it wasn’t a big chicken. It tasted pretty on point and was very tender in my opinion. The pork belly was also very good in sense that it was soft and very flavourful. It was a bit oily for me, but essentially it was well prepared. My favourite has to be the Mapo tofu. It wasn’t really spicy, but it sure was a great dish to clear out the rice bowls. The tofu were very soft and smooth. The seasoning was great and I really don’t have anything bad to say about this dish. Finally, the deep fried pork intestine. Now, I’m not a huge fan of pork intestine, but it just looked so nice I had to take a bite. It wasn’t bad. I think they deep fried it perfectly. My mom thinks it was a bit fatty but I didn’t think too much of it.I think this place is worth a try. The food were definitely worth paying money for. I’m not sure if the price I’m paying is worth the portion they serve (overall, some of the portions were pretty small) but not all of these dishes can be cooked at home so it was okay.I would have rated it a bit higher had they arranged the seating a bit better. It was a bit uncomfortable and I felt the urge to finish quickly as they were having difficulties seating the people who were coming in for dinner. There were tables, but just not enough room to fit the people into. cafeeeli.blogspot.com
