This venerable Richmond institution decamped its former squalid quarters in the center of town for glitzy, decorated, fashionable digs in the Walmart shopping center on Garden City Road and Alderbridge. Truth to say, in the former, turquoise boothed incarnation, filthy non-functioning toilets and all, the main event was always the breakfast specials, Western and Chinese. Alas, I had the noodle soup special with beef tendon and beef brisket, beef chow fun, and a baked rice dish. The laksa soup was tasty, but there was no brisket whatsoever and only a few pieces of tendon. The side order of ox-tongue did not come until we asked for it again twice. It was the only stand-out in a forgettable dinner. The beef chow fun had so little beef in it that it would have satisfied a vegan. It also had no green onions. Just noodles and insipid, tasteless sauce. My friend said the rice dish was only so-so. The service was very poor. We had to ask for an extra setting four times before it arrived. The young Chinese woman at the table next to us sent a dirty spoon back three times. Also, very hard to get a refill on the tea.
