came here for a quick dinner with a buddy, and recently have been going to richmond quite a number of times. decided to follow from the resident, which my friend have been staying in richmond quite a while and i trust his food judgement. He showed me into richmond public market which there is a food court and there are a number of stalls in the second floor. I came near the closing times at 7:15pm which there are still people playing chess and the tv are playing cantonese drama series. the food, it’s chinese fast food, which you can choose 2-3 items from a variety of dishes that are already cooked, but you can also order anything on the menu which is on the board.decided to go for sweet and sour pork, pork ribs, and string beans. and well hmmmm everything tasted better than it looked for sure, at the same time because it’s quite late i take into consideration that it’s not at it’s best state, but in terms of flavour. it’s definitely just right in my opinion, there’s enough flavour that it packs within each dish to be able to enjoy them by themselves although a little bit over powering for the pork ribs and sweet and sour pork. but if it’s taken with rice it’s just the right amount.for the economical price and portion i do like the place. for less than $10 I can be full, for some maybe they’ll pack it to go to eat twice. mangkr.wordpress.com
Ahhh Wonder Wok! As far as cheap, Chinese take-out goes this place gets the gold in my book. 3 items on rice (fried or white) for $7.50 flat is a bargain in anybody’s book. Plus you get a free cup of tea, which admittedly doesn’t taste good, but it really helps settle the stomach after such a large meal. And unlike a lot of food-bargains this one actually holds up. A great variety of menu times including: fried squid, lamb (on occasion), beef & onion, orange chicken, beef brisket, spicy pork chop, honey garlic pork, and deep-fried shrimp to name a few offhand. The last 3 are three of MY particular favourites; I never pass up on the shrimp. As for the food-court itself atmospherically you’re much better off. They do have a small courtyard though which is an okay spot to eat on a nice day. Overall great, cheap take-out Chinese food that’s wonderful for what it is. Just don’t expect it to be anything else.
