Was looking for something Greeky, as my cravings were getting the best of me. Decided to go here, they were advertising that they were the best Greek Restaurant in Burnaby, according to Burnaby Now paper. Another deciding factor to try this place out, was because we had an entertainment coupon. I thought that this restaurant was not outstanding, but I definitely understand why this was voted one of the best. We started off with a calamari and I thought it was a little bland with LOTS of onions, but the tzatziki was bland, so overall, this was a bland dish. I had the beef souvlaki and I thought it was good, as the rice was quite tasty. The tzatziki sauce was a tad bland, but it went very well with my souvlaki. It was good value with the entertainment coupon, but for a greek restaurant, I thought the prices were quite reasonable.
My friend and I came for a late lunch around 2PM, using the entertainment book coupon. Overall the meal was alright but not the best Greek food or service I’ve had. There was one server at the time covering a two top and a party. The service was okay but she seemed aloof. She couldn’t put our order through the lunch menu as the system had apparently switched to the dinner menu. The food was not bad. The Greek salad accompanying the entrees were not good. The salad was mostly cucumbers and tomatoes, with a couple pieces of white onion, not very much feta, and no peppers. We had the saganaki as an appie, which I thought was tasty but my friend said it was different than other restaurants she had eaten in. We got the roast lamb and the grilled calamari plates. The lamb portion seemed kind of small compared to other restaurants but tasted good; my grilled calamari tasted good too. The best part of the plate were the potatoes, they were so good- creamy and flavorful. The rice was decent. All in all, I don’t think I’d come back but it was a nice lunch.
So very close to a 5 star rating if not for the lack of air conditioning during hot summer days. The staff at Sfinaki are great and the food choices are excellent. Most definitely the very best Greek restaurant in Burnaby … you will not be disappointed!
My friend and I was hungry and I love Greek calamari dinner, I said lets go to Sfinaki since it is only 5 minutes away and I heard the Calamari dinner isn’t bad, plus I have an Entertainment coupon. Upon arriving just after 6:20pm, prime dinner time, we were immediately told there was going to be a 5 minute wait. After a minute or two I realized half the diner was empty, we thought they were reserved. Soon realizing they weren’t as I can tell the server or hostess wanted to seat us but they were arguing or something. After another few minutes, another group came in and the same thing happened. A 5 minute wait was told to them as well. They soon chatted and was wondering like us why they aren’t being seated when the restaurant is dead empty.Few minutes later they asked us how long we been here. I looked at my watch, we were standing for over 10 minutes. We told them good luck and walked out. I don’t think I will come back.
Ok FOR REAL. This is the best Greek food I have ever eaten in my life. I swear I’m not exaggerating. The potatoes, pita and souvlaki was cooked to sheer perfection. The Greek coffee was amazing and the service was authentic and attentive. I can’t wait to go back!
I don’t know why anyone would eat there. We moved over to North Burnaby way and thought we would try some of the local restaurants. This was the first time I had eaten there and it will be our last. The room is too cluttered and dingy and just has that unclean feel that you does not really make it appealing. However they had a sign out saying that it was rated best greek in Burnaby and it was within walking distance so I thought we should try. Bad move. The food was just not very good. Okay maybe I am understating how bad it was. The saganaki was okay, not really that mouth watering or presented in a way that makes it fun. My meal arrived and it was a lot of rice, a potato, and my main was a hunk of moussaka slopped in a dish. It really looked sad, really poorly presented. The taste of it was just blah. My partners food was worse looking and I could tell that he did not like the meal, although he was trying to be polite. Judging from the fact that both of us are big eaters, the food was not large quantities, we both left a lot of food, did not take the stuff back as doggie bags, and we did not get dessert, I think that basically sums up what we thought of the meal. Neither of us wanted to eat the food that was there or ever again.
Dinner. D-lish!!!best Greek in the lower mainland
