Of almost all the sushi places in North Burnaby on Hastings, this one is the best so far. Variety for maki is great! This is the only place I have had sushi, and I didn’t end up with an upset stomach. Service is quick and friendly. Dinner hours are crazy busy. Get takeout if you don’t want to wait. I’ve recommended this place to friends.
The staff greets you and you get free miso. So good so far. Order the sushi and they are just average. Their pretty expensive for what they are and taste. The spicy salmon mountain roll was just atacked on top of each other and it costed $$. The reason I came here was that they had salmon toro. The only other place i know that had that is Sushiyama with their huge portion of salmon toro. 😉 special rolls would be dominated by sushi Cali anyday. Would be a 3 but I got stomach ache after eating.
UOmo looks like a dive from the frontage, looks crowded and cluttered on the inside and the presentation of their sushi and maki could use some work. But what gets it a 4.0 rating is that the ingredients were fresh, well put together and delicious. They also have items I haven’t seen in a while, like ume rolls and natt. The service was great, very friendly staff and it was not at all expensive.
I searched for a good Japanese restaurant in this neighbourhood and found this one had a higher rating, so my friend and I came here for dinner. This Japanese restaurant is running by Koreans. When I first arrived at the restaurant, a server directed me to a table immediately. I looked at the table. It was dirty. I used a napkin to clean it. When I got some tea from a server, the tea was not hot. The temperature of the tea was between cold and warm. When the food arrived at our table, a server gave us some plates. One of the plates was dirty. My friend used a napkin to clean it. This restaurant gave me a dirty impression. We ordered negitoro maki, sushi shower, Burnaby Height roll, a special aburi roll with spicy prawn tempura and cheese, assorted sashimi and potato croquette. The assorted sashimi and potato croquette tasted good among all the food. Overall, the pricing was cheaper than other Japanese sushi restaurants in Richmond. It implies the portion is smaller. The customer service was great here but the most important thing was the food. If I could choose again, I would not go to this restaurant. The quality is not as good as Mega Sushi or some good ones that I tried.
Sushi UOmo is located in North Burnaby in the Heights. M and I were looking for a new sushi place to eat dinner at. I’m trying to find more restaurants that I haven’t eaten at in the area and Sushi UOmo was a place I’ve never tried yet.Hamachi Sashimi is a yellowtail tuna. It has a buttery and rich flavour. It has a higher fat content than regular tuna.Aburi Don was a very interesting dish. It had the rice underneath with the torched tuna on top with an creamy sauce. There is a bit of salad on the side. The sear on top could have been a bit better with more char.Shrimp Tempura comes in either 4 pieces or 7. M and I chose the 4 pieces so we could have 2 pieces each. This restaurant has good food. Typical Japanese restaurant. However, their service is horrible. There was some sort of a system of taking orders which is completely inefficient and takes up so much time. We sat down and were ready to order, but had to wait a minimum of 20 mins just to get our order down. Due to some rule they have of taking down orders, when they could have easily just taken orders down as they walk by tables when customers are ready. This is not the first time the inefficiency and placing customers first had failed. There was another time when they would not seat the customers even though there were empty tables! They insisted on going through a system of writing down names on a board before they could seat people down. Completely inflexible. We gave them a second try and once again are disappointed.
So nice, good service and food. Overall environment is soso but taste is so good much better than other fancy restaurant. Reasonable price
