Intimate restaurant, delicious food, and excellent service. All their food is sourced locally whenever possible. I love that the scallops are from Digby Island, Nova Scotia (and not Asia). Reservations must be made in advance because they fill up fast!We had a larger group so we were fortunate to try most everything on the menu. I was particularly impressed with the bison special and cornish hen. Both meats are usually not my top choices, but they were wonderful! Not gamey at all! If I had one complaint, it would only be that some sauces were a little heavy on the salty side…and I only say this because I felt that it overshadowed the flavours of the natural ingredients. That said, everything had its own unique tase and sauces were not greasy at all! And dessert, ohh…just amazing. We tried each one and they were all delicious!Service is friendly and smooth. When something unexpected happens (i.e. glass of wine gets knocked over or we wanted to add an additional dish), it is handled swiftly and pleasantly.Thank you for such an enjoyable meal!

Excellent food and decor. The meal seems like a fusion of French and Japanese cuisine. Lobster Cappuccino was rich and a hint of sour from dashi. I like my fish but I wish it could keep warmer. Again, I found seaweed underneath. And with bok choy, I don’t really know what kind of cuisine this is. But taste wise, the meal was nice. They recommend a New Zealand white wine to go with my lingcod and it was amazing, too. Not too sweet, but the fruity flavor lingers well. The only complaint was probably how they arranged us not so private place even though there were many empty tables around. They were not so attentive, too. We poured the wine ourselves mostly. They were a bit discriminating when only ask my male partner to taste the wine. But overall, we had a good meal.

I’ve had multiple girlfriends rave to me about Pear Tree, so I happily booked a table for an anniversary dinner.I received recommendations for a variety of their dishes, it was hard to choose what to eat.We started off with the ‘Orange Caramelized Scallops with Double Smoked Bacon Risotto’. It was absolutely yummy! For entrees, we had the ‘Maple Hill Cornish Game Hen’ and ‘Blue Goose Beef Tenderloin with 36 hour braised Short Rib’. Delicious! The restaurant itself is really nice… seems a bit out of place in the area where its located because it so much nicer than the surrounding stores. Inside is small and only fits a small amount of people, which I like… feels more intimate.Really loved our experience there. We didn’t have dessert because Glenburn Soda is so close by and we chose to go for ice cream instead.

TL;DR: Book early, sit back and enjoy!Went here for a birthday dinner, customer service was awesome! We ordered the scallops and smoked bacon risotto to start. As a scallop lover, all I can say is OMG. They were amazing! Portions are fancy sized but pack so much flavor you feel satisfied at the end. They even remembered to bring out the bday cake for us even though I ordered the wrong one through the server. Definitely an intimate vibe so might want to leave the youngins at home 🙂 will be back for the next special event!

Maybe this will be the only restaurant in vancouver i would give a 5 at the moment, really loved everything that they did with food.My friends recommended me to go to this place, so went here for dinner and little that i know that chef’s tasting menu, is only available for 3 days booking in advanced, so, ate the regular menu instead, tried their seasonal menu and it was great.the appetizers, main, and desert everything that my friends ordered and I ordered all of them were really great. every bite was good, infact very good i’ll say. definitely heavily do recommend this restaurant for sure. every bite is very very memorable, and i don’t say this often about restaurants, but this one is exceptional.the place is small i would suggest to book the place as early as possible, because you’ll never know, the place is small and the food is great, and in terms of price is pricy, but at the same it’s definitely worth the money i’ll say.Yup I do really recommend this place for sure. mangkr.wordpress.com

After a time at the Pear Tree Restaurant, I began to feel like the Merovingian from The Matrix as he spoke French, akin to wiping yourwell, you knowwith silk. Id like to say that word, but most of the review sites discourage it. It felt like the luxury it truly wanted to be. From the outside, The Pear Tree is rather unspectacular, yet being that stands out among rainbow walls and neon signsthe restaurant next door was salmon-colored with a yellow awning, leaving The Pear Trees shale tiles as somewhat reserved. This perfectly exemplifies how simplicity can be scenic. At least I wasnt assaulted by varying shades of brown, the apparent default dcor of every restaurant nowadays. A glass wall of wine divides the serving area from the colossal pristine kitchen. My girlfriend and I were shoehorned to a miniscule table at a far corner, a depressing point given our reservation days in advance. That would be the only criticism of the evening. Since Araxi the previous week, I had been waiting for a truly pampered experience, and The Pear Tree shared space with Araxi in a restaurant guide claiming both among a thousand restaurants across the world one must enjoy before dying. Thats abig list. I got five down so far though. I better get off my butt. The menu was Spartan, barely ten entrees, indicating the courses were made to order. We had already decided upon the seasonal table d-hote, akin to the chefs menu. Three fixed courses for 64 dollars intermixed with pallet cleansers and bread. Yeah, not cheap. Quick spoiler warning, the dishes were all incredible. Against a canvas of ceramic white, each plate was a moment of beauty, fleeting until I rammed them down my gullet like a voracious duck. Id be honest and doubtful to remember if I even chewed. Green was a dominant color used, offset with whites and browns. After the brioche opener, we were treated to glazed pork cheek with chargrilled green asparagus, mustard textures and bacon wrapped leeks. In truth, Im not sure what mustard textures is meant to imply. It was grainy mustard; just say its grainy mustard. And I wasnt kidding about varying textures, combine the asparagus with the leeks or the leeks with the pork cheek, toss one of the crisps that top the dish if you want. The same was extended to the main, pan roasted Haida Gwaii halibut, with Yukon gold potato pave, spinach fluid gel and spring vegetables. Now I know what youre going to sayI made up half those words, but that was a direct quote from the menu. So lets do a Google search. I honestly didnt know Haida Gwaii was once the Queen Charlotte Islands and that the name changed only a few years ago, did you? Potato Pave refers to the French word for paving stones, and was coined by the world famous chef Thomas Kellerso basically its a square potato. Fluid gel? Well, its pureed spinach mixed with a gelling agent like xanthan gum yummm. Actually it was. Finally, the meal concluded with a simple dessert. Though still delicious, it was oddly subdued. In the end, that was The Pear Trees strongest note, how it doesnt go overboard. It skirts the outer periphery of molecular gastronomy without fully embracing it. My girlfriend selected the pear sorbet while I dove into the chocolate ganache with a crisp nut base, salted caramel and orange/chocolate sorbet. Pear Tree was an amazing experience but not transcendentand I honestly dont know if that translates to being a disappointment or not. I mean its less expensive than other places promising the world. I think the fault has to lie with hype. We picked it out from only a handful of restaurants in Vancouver listed in this restaurant guide. It listed only seven restaurants in Vancouver, and I had already been to Vijs. But Vijs wasnt divine either, only fantastic, but I didnt have a book that attempted to sell me on otherwise. I guess that means its all the books fault. Im okay with that. The Pear Tree is worth a visit, certainly. It falls into a slot of restaurant I didnt know existedthe one just below the best of the city, but one not trying to be better. Leave the top spot for the likes of Chambar or Absinthe, for those wanting to spend half as much but still feel they got 70% of an pinnacled experience, the Pear Tree is a worthy compromise.Food: 4.5/5Service: 5/5Presentation: 4.5/5Value: 5/5Recommendation: 4.5/5

Groupon not respected. My wife and I were excited to eat at the Pear Tree because of all the wonderful reviews. We booked a table for a Groupon we bought but had to call and cancel because of illness, they seemed annoyed but agreed to honour it if another group on dinner called for the same night. We rescheduled a couple of weeks later. When we arrived Stefanie, the owner and front of house was incredibly rude. She lectured to us about not being allowed to cancel on a Groupon, she seemed angry. My wife is a vegetarian and when we could ask if she could be accommodated Stefanie said that they would have to throw out food they prepped earlier in the day, because the Groupon meal has not substitutions, which wasn’t indicted, which from my restaurant background I know no food would be thrown out. What was the point of saying that? We were treated like naughty children. The food was very under seasoned and bland. I felt this was personally a message to us. There was no flexibility. My wife’s main course was served after I had finished mine and it looked and tasted like much children’s baby food. My meat was very fatty. Extreme disappointment.
