This is a bakery located upstairs of Highgate Village. They produce a selection of European-style cakes, cookies and other pastries. I got several of their cakes (Tiramisu, Chocolate, Mango, and Matcha Mousse) and a Sesame and Almond Florentine. All of the treats were quite tasty, and the prices were also quite reasonable. This is a bakery that’s definitely worth a visit.Almond Florentine ($2.99):4/5This was a crispy cookie that’s filled with sliced almonds and coated on the bottom with chocolate. The cookie was thin, incredibly crunchy, and melted in my mouth while the almonds had a nice fragrance. My mom had the sesame version and said that it was very fragrant (and similar to some cookies that we have in China).Tiramisu Mousse ($4.99):3.5/5This was a bit different from what you’d expect from a typical tiramisu: it consisted of coffee mousse and sponge cake sitting on top of a biscuit, and was topped with marshmallow. I found the coffee flavour to be a bit weak, and I’m not really sure if the marshmallow paired well with the coffee (it was also a bit on the sweeter side). It really did not remind me of an actual tiramisu, but it was still tasty.Matcha Mousse ($4.99):4/5This came decorated with a matcha macaron, which had becomea bit soggy on the bottom, but was still crispy on the top and was quite sweet. The cake itself consisted of matcha-flavoured mousse on top of a biscuit, and was decorated with some shredded coconut. The mousse was thick and creamy; I did find the matcha flavour to be a bit subtle. The biscuit was tender and crumbly. The coconut lent a nice fragrance that paired well with the green tea.Mango Mousse ($4.99):4/5This was decorated with leafs of chocolate. The mousse was creamy and fluffy, with a great fragrance of mango. The biscuit was tender and crumbly. I did find the chocolate to be a tad waxy and stale.Chocolate Mousse ($5.50):4/5Like the matcha cake, this came topped with a chocolate macaron. The mousse here as again creamy, with a great bittersweet flavour. The biscuit was tender and crumbly.Summary:Food: 4/5Price: 4/5Service: N/AOverall: 4/5Recommendations: Florentine, Matcha Mousse, Mango Mousse, Chocolate Mousse
My favourite thing about this bakery is their great selection of delicious, rich individual desserts. Things like tiramisu, cheesecake, chocolate mousse. Also great cannoli, cream puffs, and eclair pastries. I bought a mini cherry pie and loved it – the crust actually tasted good compared to what you get at a grocery store (as it should). I’ve found all the prices fair too. Individual desserts are around $3-5. They have a good selection of healthier cookies if you are into that – though that’s not why I visit bakeries ;)Periodically they have free samples on the counter. Once we were given fresh hot eclairs from the baker as we were walking by on the sidewalk- they were amazing! You can also order custom cakes here. The only things I didn’t like were their boxed jam cookies and biscotti. We also bought a raspberry cake that went bad quickly.Overall a great bakery with friendly service and a good selection of treats. I always have a hard time choosing what to buy.
Stale pastries and cookies. I truly wanted to like this spot partly because the service was so good and friendly, but everything I’ve picked up has been very, very stale. I actually threw out the cookies. People aren’t gonna pay for that. Maybe their occasion cakes are better.
