3.5. We came here for a big family dinner. We ordered the ten course meal which included a variety of dishes including lobster and crab. The peking duck was probably our favourite dish, as well as the lobster with noodles. Not the best Chinese food in town, but definitely not the worst, especially for the price.
We headed to Yans Garden early-Saturday morning for dim sum. Our last dining experience there was such a long time ago, that this experience was like going there for the very first time.Service throughout our stay was great. Our server greeted us upon entering, escorted into the main dining room, and showed us to a centrally-located, large, round table. A menu (for ordering items directly from the kitchen) was provided, our tea order taken – and she was back right away with hots pots of tea and water. Service to our table via the food carts was timely, and very nicely-spaced, with ample time to look at selections of each cart, choose or not choose offerings, etc. And service to the table – removing empty plates, acquiring drinking water, and such – right on the mark.It was fun to see and experience food cart service once again wow, the last time we were served dim sum dishes in this manner was sure several years ago. Based on this dining experience, this restaurant and its servers, sure know how to do it right!! Food accepted from the carts, and ordered from the menu: carts: deep fried meat dumplings, steamed beef balls, steamed beef tendon, steamed chicken knees, steamed shrimp dumplings, baked egg custard tarts menu: deep fried squid w/pepper. First impressions: good looking, very decent portion sizes. The preparations were solid. We ordered a nice assortment of familiar to us dishes (from dim sum experiences at a good many restaurants), and really enjoyed all of them each arrived from kitchen to our table warm, flavourful, and tasty. Any particular standouts not really, if I had to choose, I would just be listing most everything we ordered once again!! But will give a little extra plug to the beef balls, tendon, and chicken feet – they were sure some tasty! Our dim sum dining experience at Yans Garden was fun, and we sure enjoyed what we saw, how we were treated, and the well-prepared food ordered and shared.
