My family has enjoyed many meals at the Dog over the years and almost always had a good time, but lately, there have been problems, mainly to do with crowds and long wait times around supper hour. Specifically, the Pub recently started hosting variousorganized group events, such as painting for retired ladies on Sunday evening, and another for motorcycle enthusiasts, and they hold their gatherings in the main eating area, and you know when you arrive and find the parkinglot full that it’s going to be hard to find seating, noisy, and you can expect to wait for service. To be fair, the wait time (if you do manage to graba table)is still better than certain other Peninsula establishments, and the food is good value generally, but it is a bad feeling to watchtourists and even long-time regularpatronsgive up and leave in frustration. The serverstry their best, but they seem equally frustrated, understaffed and strung out during these busy times. I hope the situation improves, because it’s a pretty good place to eatordinarily.

Family birthday, there was 9 of us and we were seated in the restaurant section. I arrived at 5:50 pm and some of the family was already there… 2 of them had coffee and the other 6 were still waiting for their drink order to be taken, they had arrived at 5: 30 pm. we sat talking waiting for the waitress…. 6:30 she finally showed and took our drink order then we wait…. most off the drinks showed up, but not all. she took our dinner order and that was the last we saw of her…. the coffee drinkers never even got a refill. and we wait… and wait… during this time we see a table get up and leave, others sit waiting like us…. I did feel sorry for the waitress, she was trying, but was on her own and was very busy.. not her fault. Management needs to get their act together and hire more staff at peak times, or be there themselves.. and no manager was to be found… we asked. finally at 7:35 roughly, after asking the waitress if our food was coming soon…. we got up and left… we will never go back.

Just moved to the area … we LOVE this place!. I find it funny now when I read other negative reviews on this site, as this has NEVER been our experience. The Waddling Dog has become a regular hangout for my husband and I. We just moved to the area from Vancouver, and this pub is 5 minutes away. Despite the negative reviews we gave it a try the first time, and were delightfully surprised! In the dozen or so times we’ve gone there now, the food is always delicious, the beer/cider on tap is always ice cold and the service has never, ever been bad for us!! No, it’s not the most elegant atmosphere at all so if that is what you are looking for, don’t bother stopping. But if you can get past that, you will not be disappointed! (PS – Try a Johns burger with their yummy fries – it’s the best!!!)

Two out of three is bad. We stayed there for 3 nights recently. Two nights were good, the service was excellent and the food acceptable for a bar. Day 3 was a different matter. The waitress was belligerent and rude. Apparently she considered it our fault for not telling her we expected acceptable service. We walked out without eating and went to a delightful seafood restaurant on the pier at Sidney. Never returning to the Waddling Dog as a result of this experience.

Brie burger and service was great. I was there about 10 days ago with my son and the brie burger and service was great. It wasn’t very busy but no complaints. I went back with a buddy during Germany v Brazil game and had excellent service and food.

This entire property needs to be upgraded. It has been sorely neglected far too long. Could have great potential with proper management. Owner shows no signs of trying to avoid it becoming a slum property, which it is fast becoming.

Fish and Chips and Oil. December 29, 7pm….Coleslaw was good. And the server did a good job . But I was there fore the meal and it was a let down. Cod, thin meat, lots of breading, burned, and dripping oil. French fries way overdone, mostly air surrounded by dark crispy potato, dripping oil. I ate in the pub which was having a slow night and the general mood was low. Ambiance was a little dark for me and the background sounds too loud. I felt comfortable reading my book but didn’t try for wifi.I enjoyed their food in the past a lot, but it has been about two years and I think a change in management has occurred.
