Just been here once . But neither me nor my friend liked it . Don’t quite remember what we ordered . The name is kinda misleading .. Would not go there again . The food also does not seem authentic .
Meh. Ate here because it’s in my new ‘hood & because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews. The folks were nice enough, and I got a lot of food on my chicken shawarma platter, but it honestly was quite bland. I don’t think the hummus had any flavour at all, the tabouleh was nothing to write home about, the chicken was bland, and there was a lot of bland rice on the plate. I do need to qualify my comments by saying that for $7 the food is healthy, just bland. Would I eat here again – nope. Too many other reasonably priced places in the ‘hood to choose from. And for shawarma or donair, I honestly don’t think anyone can beat the Donair King on Davie Street – grilled donairs are where it’s at.
I go here too often. This place is just too convenient for me, both for speed and how good the food is. Picky OCD people who like their wraps grilled in just the perfect way may find something to nitpick about, but the service is friendly, the food is tasty, and it’s prepared fast. Love the baclava!
Went there for lunch today. Had a Lamb Shawarma (Donair).Very fresh and tasty, polite an quick service would recommend you try it. Great alternative to big greasy fast food chains
Great food!. I’m a regular here. Great little family business operated just off of Hastings. They open to I believe 10 on weekdays and beyond 12 on Fridays/Saturdays if I’m not mistaken. Hard working couple and it pays off.
I’ve tried lots of donairs, and will only order from a place where they actually cut the meat from a rotating spit. This place does that so I ordered the chicken donair. The place is small, atmosphereless and well-lit like a fast food joint. The male worker was all smiles and friendly but continued, annoyingly, to carry on a distracting conversation with another female friend or coworker who had dropped in. He then altogether gave up on prepping my order, took off the plastic gloves and handed them to another female worker, and focused on the conversation with the lady. The new worker took over and proceeded to put on those same (inside-out now) gloves, until I asked her to grab a new pair and continue. The serving was generously prepared, wrapped in tin-foil(?) then put in a bag.I asked if they would grill it before serving as I saw the panini-style grill on the counter behind, which is how the fabulous Donair King on Davie St. finishes it.The guy got weird: he told me that the customer has to ask for that extra touch as it’s under $7. Really? What logic ‘Einstein’! How silly of me. He went on to express how the Davie St. places are more expensive and not the same as his. So that means that because Donair King charges 6 cents more than this place it naturally gets grilled without them having to offer that to you? Yup, weird. He further ingratiated himself telling me how great that other place is, farther up Davie street, Donair Dude. Which it simply is not: meat pulled from a bin behind the counter and a mismatched array of gross, nsuitable toppings. I made that mistaken visit once, never to be repeated.I digress. So he takes the now foil-wrapped donair and puts it in the grill: foil-wrapped!Whatever. The real test was the food. Well it ends up getting ‘steamed’ in the tin-foil, not grilled. So the meat was kind of slimy (like the meat at DD) and the condiments were poorly matched; save for the delicious purple radishes I insisted on. I didn’t bother to finish it.Lesson: stick with your favorite donair place. Donair King.
