My girlfriend and I wanted to explore Chinatown a little bit, and do some shopping at a particular store that has the latest apparel on sneakers. We noticed Jade restaurant and decided to give it a try.Upon entering we were greeted kindly and given menu’s. We noticed that the dim sum menu has a promo of 20% off before 11am. Perfect! We arrived at 10:30am.The interior had been renovated nicely. I would recommend not seating too close to the door because each time the door opens a cold draft comes in. The menu is a basic Cantonese style dim sum. When our food arrived we were surprised. Our beef rice rolls were delicious and not over cooked. The chicken claws prepped nicely. The sticky rice was also prepped nicely. None of the rice stuck to the leaf. The bean curd was savory and scrumptious with a surprising crunch of water chestnuts. There are 3 bathrooms in the back, all unisex.I wanted to also mention that they have a handicap washroom as well. Not alot of restaurants have one. It’s fantastic that they have one.All in all, I was generally happy with everything. Until I was presented with the bill. The lady manager/owner told me that the 20% discount before 11am applies when you PAY BEFORE 11am. I wish I was told this, because it left a sour impression on me. Every place I went to that had a dim sum promotion before a certain time, the general rule is you order before a certain time to claim the promotion. She explained that it was her computer system and software she was using…Would I go back again? Yes, because of the handicap washroom. The food is decent. I would remember to pay the bill before 11am. But minus points for now.
Flew in from Edmonton yesterday, long day, tired and hungry. Was craving real Chinese food, not the crappy, weak cowboy Chinese we get in rural Alberta ( its just nasty) .. anyhow, stumbled across this restaurant, doesnt look much from the outside but boy oh boy were we wrong. Great service, amazing authentic Chinese food. Slightly confusing menu idea as we were given three different food menus but we figured it out.The string green beans in garlic sauce were quite addictive and not oily. The sweet and sour pork was perfect.Beef in ginger was just sweet and sticky and crunchy and wow.The vermicelli curry noodles just fantastic. We also had prawn dumplings and prawn spring rolls. We ordered way too much for two people but thats what happens when you havent eaten all day.Bill was $60 for 6 dishes. Great price.Cannot recommend this restaurant enough.Wish I lived nearer.
This is the worst Chinese dim sum place that I’ve ever been to. They told us that they were sold out of the veggie rice rolls and the mushroom pastries, so they recommended the veggie bun, which has only little veggie inside while the skin of the bun is so thick that I can only taste the flour of the bun but not the veggie. Their yam and pumpkin sago tart only has pumpkin but no yam. The HK style fried chicken wings are just salty without other taste. The dry preserved veggie and pork bone congee has just bits of veggie and tiny pieces of pork bone. How can they serve this barely substantial congee to customer? Would they eat that themselves? The servers were just talking loudly around us, and they were not sure if our dishes had arrived on our tables so they kept asking us. Why would they asked us if they could see the checked off item on our order form? This restaurant is a rip-off for its quality of food. You would only want to go there if you don’t know what is good Chinese food.
Lunch meeting with TL we ordered Sui Mai,Har Gow,Pork Puff Pastry,Chicken Feet with Ribs and Rice every dish was amazing i’m shocked i enjoyed the Chicken Feet. The food and service is 5 stars i would highly recommend this place
This is a hidden place nested in chinatown. I’m glad I gave this place a try for the 1st time as I noticed the dim sum here takes a very unusual form. Although they offer a very limited selection with your usual #hargow and #suimai I got to try their recommend fungus dumplings dish and steamed radish cake which you don’t normally see offered at any other restaurant. I would recommend the steam radish cake as a healthier option to the fried one. This dish comes in a porridge form but is packed with flavor. Probably one of their better dim sum dishes. This place does not use a lot of salt but they do focus on more on the vegetarian side. The dim sum dishes range from $3 – $5 dollars but if you pay before 11:00am they offer a 20% discount.
