Discovered Moltaqa through Vancouver magazine and have been meaning to check it out. Coincidentally, James & I were invited to for a tasting; neither of us have tried Moroccan food before and we were intrigued! After Moltaqa took over the spot of what was formerly known as ACME, they added some detailed touches to make the restaurant Moroccan themed. The interior is welcoming and very unique.I loved the tea they served and the unique teapot it came along with. The tea was minty and addicting! We tried the following items for food:* Bessara ($6.50) – Vegan option, traditional green pea soup with cumin. This dish is served with bread on the side. The staff of Moltaqa explained to us that this is the type of dish that their grandmothers would make for them. It was really neat learning about the culture and experiencing and tasting Moroccan staples!* Stuffed Aubergine ($9.25) – Walnuts & red pepper stuffed aubergine on a bed of arugula dressed with pomegranate molasses, apricot confiture with a feta crumble. This was an extremely unique dish, I can’t say I’ve ever had anything like it before. Each bite was met with complex textures and flavours.* Halal Lamb Shank Apricot Tagine ($26.75) Lamb with seasonal vegetables. This was hands down, the favourite dish of our meal. The meat on the lamb was extraordinarily tender and fell off the bones. The apricot added sweetness to the sauce with a hint of tanginess.Overall, we both really enjoyed our first time experience with Moroccan food, and more importantly, Moltaqa!
