Peruvian Soul FoodSilvestre is a Mom and Pop business that you can tell is a labour of love (in fact, most days you can see Momma cooking in the kitchen with her sons behind the counter). And let me tell you: Momma Silvestre cooks some hella good french fries, Veggie Sandwiches, Chicharron con Camote, Adobo de Chancho, Pollo a la Brasa, Seco de Res y Frejoles, Apple Pie and more. Granted from time to time they are out of food, maybe there is spotty service or the food takes longer than expected to arrive but the food is worth it and everyone should just let Momma Silvestre do her thing.

Very tasty, homemade type of food. Loved every thing we ordered in the menu. Great churros as well . Will return soon! The ambiance was nice and calm. Not too fancy, but if you go just to have a good lunch /dinner this is the place in Gastown

Having been to many parts of Peru and being somewhat of a foodie we were pleased with the food provided by this restaurant. We ordered takeout and had the baked and fried empanadas in addition to the pollo en salsa de mani. The portions were generous and the empanadas were not dry and additional dipping sauces were provided. The price was reasonable ($31) given the location in the heart of Gastown.

The Chicharron sandwich is one of their signature sandwiches, and it’s delicious (if you’re not worried about the fat level). Also, their rotisserie chicken meals are awesome. The prices are a bit expensive though.

$18 for Lomo Saltado carne. I’m a bit disappointed as its not as close as the one I had in Peru couple of years ago. There’s 6 small pieces of dry, flat beef, 2 pieces of julienned bell peppers, 3 slices of tomatoes and the rest are onions. It is pricey for the amount what you are getting but I get it the restaurant is located at Gastown. I suggest add a bit more meat please the Beef empanada tasted better than the chicken with dipping sauces on the side. It seems big but it has got a lot of air pockets, so I suggest get 2-3 per person $5.75 each Alfajores Dulce de Leche is just ok, I can’t really taste the caramel $2.50 for a small piece Service is good though, the waitress is efficient pay parking on the streets or parkade nearby or take the skytrain, get off @ Waterfront and walk towards East (Gastown area)

went here for lunch and wasn’t sure at all what to expect for peruvian food. In all honesty i wasn’t even know what i’m ordering and what’s my expectation of taste. Totally down with peruvian taste of food, So ordered the chicharron con camote, with pork it’s either going to be really heavenly or it’s going to be atleast average, unless the chef totally goes peruvian gone wild type of cooking.so they serve some kind of nuts prior to the main dish, the nuts is salty and once bitten, it cracks and crumbles. it also have a deepfried flavor in it.so the main dish came, pork, onion, and sweet potato. first bite was the pork, since it’s the main attraction of a slow cooked peruvian style pork. apparently it’s hmmm a bit dry for me, and in terms of the taste, it’s a more distinct herb i wasn’t able to identify with and in terms of taste is more bland but still salty. the rest are just okay.Maybe i did order the wrong items, but the person wasn’t really recommending any food selection either, so I got to trust my own judgement at the time.will i recommend the restaurant? hmmmmm well this is the only peruvian restaurant that i know, but still no.and so far not coming back for the same dish for sure, but maybe will give another item a shot. mangkr.wordpress.com

I’ve never been this disappointed in a restaurant. If it were possible I would give this place a -1.0 rating. Never ever come here for gelato, Gas town definitely isn’t a popular place to get gelato to begin with but still never ever come here for gelato. I paid a whopping 5.00 plus tip for a spoonful of ice cream! The tip part was my fault for some reason I wasn’t thinking straight. Never have I seen a place cheap out as much as I’ve seen this place, and I’ve been to moxies! This was the smallest amount I’d ever seen for a single scoop of ice cream, which wouldn’t of been so bad if the price wasn’t through the roof! I 100% do not recommend this place, unless you want to not be able to support your family and end up living on the streets. This place is a home wrecker with its deceptive pricing and tiny amounts of gelato.PS: the mango gelato was not bad
