The centre of Abbot Street seems to be the current hard line between gentrified east Vancouver and future gentrified east Vancouver. A seat at the front window is a fascinating look out at the human equivalent of the meeting of fresh and salt water in the mouth of the Fraser. I’m not sure that it didn’t just make me sad….sorry. I had a moment there. We are talking about food here. The tacos made me happy. I had 4 for $10 and a side of beans for $3. The beans were not the usual cooked to mush style but had some texture and flavour to them which was the biggest revelation of my visit (food wise) not to mention the selection of 5 salsas and some pickles which are all made in house and allow you to spice up your order. I had the chicken, ground beef and two kinds of pork and all the tacos were delightful. Each came in two tortillas (not made in house)and assorted toppings (pickled onions, jalapenos, onions, cilantro). Were they the best ever? I don’t know. I don’t really do superlatives as it would require me to line up all the tacos I had ever eaten but they were pretty fine. The soundtrack as I ate my tacos included Biggie, Nirvana and Soundgarden so that made me happy also. This place is pretty cool! Its worth a walk into the sketchy zone. yeswereeatingagain.com
Been coming here since it opened two years ago. Food is always good, however communication with staff can be extremely difficult due to poor English. Unless I am standing there watching their every move in the construction of my burrito bowl, you cannot trust that things will be made right. No consistency.
