One of the few authentic Robata grill restaurant in town. They even serve Yakitori and Yaki Onigiri as good as Japan!Sushi is just average but the hotpots and chazuke are good as wellambience is not as cozy as the old location but is quite modern.Try the coffee jelly for dessert, one of the better ones in town!
I always thought this restaurant was pricey but after not visiting for such a long period of time I decided to go back and boy was I surprised. This place may have been considered expensive in my mind back 10 years ago when all I could afford was a happy meal but honestly it isn’t. I guess as food prices have gone up steadily this place’ menu has remained relatively consistent. It’s not to say this is cheap but definitely great value for what you get. The chicken teriyaki is not your typical goopy sauce on a bland piece of pan fried chicken thigh you get at an atypical Japanese restaurant. It’s flavourful, unique and grilled well. The tempura is light and not oily though in this instance I actually do prefer the super sweet tempura sauce some other restaurants offer. The sukiyaki and butter beef are both great. With a couple bowls of rice, either dish will get you quite full for a reasonable price. No wonder this place has stayed in business for so long. Glad to have rediscovered such a fantastic restaurant.
After searching for a sushi place close to our hotel we happened upon Aki Sushi. The menu and atmosphere was very authentic looking, so was definitely disappointed with how the sushi turned out. However the service was friendly and the menu quite extensive, but the sushi was just not quite up to par. carlivh.com
A little dark restaurant. We wanted sushi and stumbled upon Aki… The menu is quite extensive although the sushi selection is very minimal and they don’t make any substitutions. The sushi rolls are small in size and the cocktails lack flavor. Overall, not quite what I was expecting.
Fresh + Great + Quality sushi in Vancouver ! Love the ambience and location. Service is fair depends on the crowd. We always come back for it.
After hearing about how this Japanese restaurant was the first in the city since 1963 it made me want to try. I had read about Aki’s story and how it all happened and it really made me want to try this place. Today I finally did. I really wanted to like this place. The food ranged from – alright to good. Some of the dishes made me feel like they cheated out on ingredients, at least for the price they were pushing. Yes I know this is downtown, but even downtown still has to provide value. The Sable fish was $19. I much would rather pay another $10 on top and got Sable fish as an entree elsewhere. Yes the quality is a little better than other sushi places but at double the price for a little raise in quality? I don’t think it’s worth my money. All I can say is. I at least tried it.
One of my very favorites, the fish is always fresh, and you know from the taste and texture of the sushi that it’s made to order. As for the cooked food, yaki onigiri and saba shioyaki address my absolute favorite and they make it perfectly here. A bit pricey, but we’ll worth it for the quality.
