Came here for my friends birthday. For the price you pay I expected better. The restaurant inside is quite nice with beautiful tall ceilings. The only problem with that is when it gets loud it gets echoey.First, we were supposed to be on the rooftop, and though my friend booked it that way online according to front end staff she booked it wrong. Hence we were seated in front of the small side bar upstairs. People up against the glass looked squished. It would have been nice if they were able to accommodate us. Also the Happy Hour does not occur inside the restaurant, which sucks.Second the food. It was nice servers came by and explained the different types of cuts in both Japanese Wagyu and Canadian beef. They explained why the Japanese Wagyu beef was so expensive; apparently the cows are constantly drunk and get massaged daily. However, for that sort of beef you are paying quite high prices. The black and blue bread wasnt spectacular. The oil it came with was quite nice, but Overall it wasnt fairly flavourful. I also tried the Kushi oysters; the small buttery ones. While they were one of the nicer oysters I tried, I could find them for a cheaper price with more condiments at Chewys. I also tried the Brussels sprouts, which I would say is the only menu item to die for.I ordered the prime rib, which came with mashed potatoes, seasonal veg and Yorkshire pudding. I chose this over a steak because the steak is a la cart and you would have to order sides to accompany it; making you dinner price quite high. However when it was served to me the Yorkshire pudding was stone cold. I had to ask for a replacement and though the replacement was warmer, it still was cold. When I asked about this, I was informed they cook the Yorkshire puddings ahead and warm it to above room temperature then plated. In my opinion that is not the way Yorkshire pudding should be served.l, because when they are cold they are rock hard. However, the prime rib was quite favourable. It was tender came with a nice sauce. I wish they served horseradish with the dish but they didnt. Also the mashed potatoes were slightly cold. You can tell they were waiting for the meat because the potatoes had a semi crust to the top.Overall I was less than impressed for the price I paid. I dont think I will be returning. I can have a better dinner at other restaurants for a more reasonable price. Go here for the atmosphere and the meat room, dont go here for the food.

I would have given this place a higher rating but the service was slow and we had to wait for drink service. Asked for water several times and finally had some poured at end of our meal. Not a good thing since diners with ample liquor in them tend to order more but need to wash down with water so we can sober up just to order more drinks. Or is that just me? The food however was delicious. We decided to celebrate our 20+ years of friendship (we would have thought of another excuse) with their caviar special and glass of champagne. My main meal was just how I want it, medium rare. Usually when I ask for medium rare I receive well done. I do hope the service improves. We will have to come back again…sigh. This time we are ordering two deserts! LOL!

Black + Blue is one of the restaurants under Glowbal Group. It is located next to its sister restaurant (COAST) on Alberni Street. We came here in a group of 12 for celebrating a friend birthday. We were disappointed.First, the server did not tell us the features of the day.Second, the server was too busy serving other tables. We waited more than 30 minutes in order to place our orders.Third, the server did not explain the cut of the meats. We noticed another server brought out a meat board to her customers, and she provided a demonstration on the cut of the meats. If a demonstration has been made before our meal, we truly believe we would order different dishes.Food: Should Try! Service: Price: $100-$150 for twoPresentation: Parking: Street Parking or Valet Parking Would I Return: Maybe Explore the Menu: Prime Rib with yorkshire pudding, Rib-Eye, Lobster Louie, Cauliflower Carbonara, Wagyu Beef CarpaccioTips:Make a reservationAsk for a demonstration on the cut of the meatsSit on the rooftop

June 18, 2017I Had celebrated father’s day dinner with parents and hubby. It’s pricey and good services. Its cost me almost $500. One of the server told us that, they have 5 pieces of porterhouse steak left, while we sit at bar section waited for our seats. My dad love to try that for dinner. So, we tried to order one, after we got our table, even it’s $100 for a piece.. but it’s end up.. they told us…. it’s sold out after 5 minutes…My dad was so disappointed. We had caesar salad (they mixed it in front of us, it’s tasty, dressing is perfectly cover every single lettuce, not less dressing or over dressing, they gave me a lot of cheese on top, after I asked for extra), 1 bottle of Aquinas red wine, a glass of bois pertuis red wine, steak Diane (portion was too small, gravy was cover the whole meat, too salty for me, cannot taste any beef natural favourite, not worth for $41), wagyu beef fritters ( thin sliced wagyu beef on deep fried cheese, not worth for $23), calamari (not crispy and small portion for $16), 18 pieces of fresh effingham oysters (I found a lot of tiny shells inside the oysters, it’s little bit fishy and made me had stomachache afterward and on next morning) , 1 order of chateaubriand steak (they served in front of us for $100 for a piece, but it’s dried and too chewy for my dad), prime rib (this is the only dish that i like the most) and butter cake (it’s signature dish, but it’s way too sweet for us, nothing special).3.5 points is for services and atmosphere only.Food quality was so disappointed, I rather go for hawksworth restaurant for steak.

Been here and wasn’t impressed with the quality of their steaks.. poorly executed. For a steak place to get steak wrong.. thats a disappointment.
