3.2/ 5 the food takes forever to arrive. The taste of ramen itself is unmemorable, which makes it lose more points to me. The menu has more to offer than a regular Japanese reman shop, if you like to try ramen with different combination. Overall, I don’t think this place is the first choice in terms of eating ramen on Robson St.
Handmade ramen noodles is what attracted me to this restaurant. I ordered the Koika Tsukemen (spicy ver.) and a CoCo karaage (deep fried chicken). The ramen noodles that came with the tsukemen were al dante and thicker than the average. They offer different types of noodles depending on the ramen. The tsukemen ramen had a very good chew and I’d prefer that it were warmer. (A cold or warm noodle when having tsukemen is personal preference.) The spicy soup was not very spicy compared to others I’ve had. Within the soup, was soft shredded pork instead of typical cha shu pork, it imparted a sweet undertone to the broth. Normally tsukemen is salty, but this one was predominantly sweet with some spice.Would I order this ramen again? Probably not, but I’m willing to try the other ramen dishes because the noodles are solid. The fried chicken was moist and lightly breaded, the spicy dip that came with it is quite intense red pepper paste. I recommend dipping the chicken in it rather than spreading the paste on. The chicken had good salt and pepper taste, but it could do well to be paired with picked vegetables or grated radish.
New location recently opened on robson. They have been quite successful on the original location on Davie St. The place is quite spacious and situated in a great location on Robson St. The ambience is quite nice. The garlic ramen we ordered, however, was served a bit too cold. We would expect a nice warm broth but it was quite disappointing for the first time. The server there was informed of this, and he was gonna inform the kitchen. Hopefully the next time we come over, it will be perfect!Other than that, the portion was decent, and the noddle was spot on!
