Slipping. I have been to Merridale a handful of times since it opened for dinner, functions and weddings and have experienced the complete range from excellent to terrible. I guess you could call it inconsistent. As of late I went for a friends wedding and was totally unimpressed. I completely understand what it takes to put on an event and during the wedding season these events might seem annoying to staff, but uncaring servers just running through the motions dropping cutlery, spilling food and not cleaning it up and grumpy rushing is just not what people pay for nor is a good experience. I felt truly sorry for the wedding party because they felt the same way. As I have said in other posts I can look past below average food if the service is good but this night the food was bad and so was the service. If you are planning a wedding give it some serious thoughts as there are many options out there and so many places have a formula for pumping people through their establishments and charging way to much. Sorry Merridale as I think you have a great opportunity to provide something better than what you do. I won’t be going back until I hear things have changed.

We are locals, and decided to try dinner here last night. It was exceptional. For the price and quality there is nothing in this Area that even comes close. Relaxing on the sunny back deck with a glass of house made sangria is heaven. Throw in a fresh made pizza & the bread, pt, cheese platter and it just doesn’t get any better. Service was friendly and efficient. Hands down best dinner option in mill bay/cobble hill shawnigan.

Not as good. Been here quite a few times, however the last two visits have been dissapointing, the food seems to be going towards the trendy, rather than the tasty. Some of our mains were too fussy and a not as hot as they should have been, apples with everything, we know this is a cidery but come on!! There is a new kitchen opening outside very soon, lets hope they improve the quality otherwise the excelent Unsworth winery next door will be our new destination

Good food. We eat here a couple times a year. We always enjoy the food. The chefs are top notch. It takes time to prepare food like this so go relaxed with good company. It is worth the wait. The servers this time did not seem very comfortable with their jobs. The girl who filled our water glasses was timid if not down right jumpy. The server (female..late teens) was sour faced. The food more than compensated for these observations. I had the chicken liver (best I ever had) the marinated olives , wow. These did not come from a jar. Main was the beef pot pie. The beef was the most tender I have ever eaten , baked fresh not reheated. My wife had the tedziki which came with fresh baked pita bread , wonderful. For a main she had the chicken & asparagus crepe’s , to die for. No extra salt or pepper is required as the food is perfectly seasoned. We will be back there again this summer for certain

Great food, poor service. Enjoyed a very tasty Sunday brunch here recently – good balance of flavours, nicely prepared, and a beautiful room to enjoy the meal in. Sadly the waitress lacked professionalism which detracted greatly from this lovely bistro. We were greeted with a rather sour face and not once did we receive a welcoming smile. While waiting for our order she stood by the till eating her lunch and then came to check on our table with food around her mouth. Please, take your meal in the kitchen! I would return for the food, but not the service.

Smoke Salmon Ceasar Salad. This was the place that inspired me to switch from my grilled chicken ceasar salad to smoked salmon ceasar salad. Great environment with a beautiful patio that you can enjoy all year round but best in the summer! View of the orchard creates the serenity you are looking for during a peaceful Sunday brunch. Very nice delicate flavouring! Worth the 30 minutes drive north of Victoria.

Yummmmy!!!. If you are lucky and you can get some of their baked goods on a weekend, you must try them. Awesome cinnamon buns, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies the size is out of this world-Huge, with a small price.
