I would have liked to review but they were so rude before even trying to seat my wife and I we left. OK it was Friday we had no reservations we expected a wait list.Walk in a CUSTOMER goes oh yah there’s no list… no we stand in line behind his party. A waitress comes by after 15-20 minutes of standing says are you waiting? To us and the couple behind us… Yes… mutters about starting a list… good idea… we’re number 1. She leaves comes back in 5 says shouldn’t be much longer offers couple BEHIND us seat at bar… OK cause we have a table soon yeah? Wrong… 15 minutes goes by a few with reservations are sat. Waitress comes by! Finally right? Looks at threesome standing near us asks if they had reservations, nope, goes to take them to a table. I go excuse me loudly, she walks away and doesn’t look back.Look 45 minutes for a table in Cowichan Bay in April is a bit of a stretch but if you want to turn away business keep it up. Might give you another chance but suggest you train your FOH staff on etiquette.
I go to the Cow Cafe a lot. When they first opened they had excellent service and made perfect steaks every time, but the last three times I have ordered a steak it has been an extremely thin cut (Strip loin) that has been cooked beyond belief (in which I ordered rare- not knowing it was going to be such a thin cut). Even their filet mingnon which is a thicker cut was cooked well-done when ordered rare. I do, however enjoy their surf and surf, crab dip and crab melt on the ciabatta. Their halibut fajitas are pretty great too as their halibut was perfectly cooked! The past handful of times I have been there, the service has been extremely slow, and felt I needed to order two drinks at a time to last until they checked on us…Their deck is great for the summer but you should make a reservation for the summer season if you want a chance to sit out there. I hope they return to their thicker cuts of steak, and the service picks up a bit. I love this restaurant and don’t want to see it go down the gutter! Come on guys!
This is the third time I have been to this restaurant. Twice before it was pretty good, not outstanding but couldn’t complain. Not memorable in anyway other than the fantastic patio. This time though I had to write a review. We were there with another family (table of 7 total) The service was slow!!! It wasn’t even busy and the server moved at snails pace, not in a rush for anything it seemed, which was annoying considering I waited with an empty glass for a long time. I ordered the 8oz baseball sirloin which they had no more of but they offered the 6oz at a cheaper price. I asked for medium rare and veg and rice with it. The rice was awful! It tasted instant and had way too much pepper, it coated my entire mouth and honestly ruined my appetite a little. The steak was almost well done so i sent it back. The server didn’t take control of the situation and really didn’t seem to care, I had one remade and even though the cook was correct, it had no seasoning on it at all and tasted like a cheap cut of meat. Very disappointing. I feel $10 for a kids meal is a little steep considering it’s the regular stuff cooked everywhere for kids, Mac n cheese, chicken strips etc. My friends all enjoyed their meals, said it was nothing to write home about though. The Canada day cocktails were also disappointing. The service though was so slow it ruined the whole experience. We even noticed the table behind us complaining about it and getting other servers attention just to get a drinks refill. It’s a nice spot with a great patio but the servers could use some better training and a smile.
Ate at your establishment on Saturday t 6/21. The service was slow, no one seemed to be in charge, slow to clear the table after appetizers. The calamari was well over cooked and the peppers and onions were just not the idea I was expecting. The entree` was good and had good flavour. Overall the dining experience was a 4to 5 out of ten. I will give your establishment another opportunity some day. One big turn off you may want to pass along is the waitresses need to stop touch and flipping their hair while in front of the public.
Hmmmmm. OMG soooooooooooooo sloooooooooooow
As management I’d like to thank everyone for taking time for writing there reviews we love hearing feedback about your experiences .. We work hard to prepare our food fresh, sorry for the confusion but we would never serve instant rice.
Mother’s Day. Instant rice? Really? Won’t be back. Table of 6.
