Great idea! Coffee shop on one side and bakery/hot food on the other!! Amazing French toast and bacon popover – so yummy!!! The peppermint mocha was so good – best homemade chocolate sauce!!
Like the coffee house but bought a chocolate/orange lip balm after getting a coffee. Not only does the scent not match the name but the texture is so weird. Not smooth almost like it has been around too long & around much heat, very disappointed.

I have never written a review before,but today I was treated so rudely that I have to say something. I visited the Shawnigan house coffee and chocolate for the first time today. I am a new resident to the Shawnigan area. I ordered a coffee and asked if I could also get a pastry. I was told abruptly that the baked goods were another business and I should go next door if I wanted a pastry. I explained that this was my first time visiting their store. I was the only person getting a coffee at the time so I stood to wait for my coffee. The women who had taken my order once again in an unfriendly tone told me to go get my pastry and come back for my coffee. I went into the next room to get a pastry and asked about the fresh bread. I was once again met with a similar unfriendly attitude from the person at the bakery. I got my pastry and coffee, which were both good, and left shocked at how totally unfriendly both businesses had treated me. I am a person who patronizes local businesses regularly but I will not return to either of these stores. First impressions and excellent service are everything in business. I run my own business and I know if I treated new customers like I was treated today I would be out of business. These businesses are definitely not representative of other local Shawnigan businesses which I have found to be exceptionally friendly.
From Good to Great?, No, from Great to Outstanding!. Can something great get even better? Yes it can! Martine has turned a great coffee shop into an exceptional experience with the same great coffee and chocolates and some wonderful upgrades to the space making more room and more light to enjoy. Combine that with a great bakery for a neighbor and you have the best spot in town to meet a friend for a brew and a bite to eat. Always friendly and accommodating, Martine has created a wonderful gem of a hangout spot in the village.
