This sushi restaurant is on Austin Ave in Coquitlam. There is no other Japanese restaurants that are competing with them yet, so this is Mega Sushi’s advantage. The restaurant itself is small with limited tables and chairs, so customers might have to wait for a table. It is running by Korean. Their servers are professional, friendly and efficient. They knew that the restaurant was small and had to do everything quickly, so the turnover of each table could be quicker and they could do more businesses. We ordered four dishes – two pieces of ikura sushi, Austin roll (cut into five pieces), spicy chopped scallop roll and a full order of half tuna (4 pieces) and half salmon (4 pieces) sashimi. The only thing that I did not like was that the each piece of the Austin roll was very big. When I was having a first bite, I could not separate the seaweed of the piece. The restaurant was not using good seaweed. The seaweed was very chewy. Other than the chewy seafood, everything tasted good. The sauce of the roll made the sushi tasted better. Their pricing was reasonable and the portion of the sushi was a decent size. We would definitely like to go back for Japanese food/sushi next time.

Food was so gross and overly sauced I gave most of it to my dog. Fish wasn’t even cold. It wasn’t fresh and it was expensive for what I got. I could have gone to yaletown and paid the same amount for way better food. I’ll never come back

Mega Sushi is a mega popular sushi joint in Steveston. They have a quite innovative menu and are always busy, so reservations are recommended! The salmon and hotate sashimi, as well as the assortment of nigiri that we ordered was nice and fresh. The standout dish was the ‘Godzilla Bites’- deep fried seaweed and rice with salmon, tuna, torched spicy scallop, and a special sauce. Each bite had a great combination of textures and flavours, though the rice definitely could’ve been crispier.

Stopped in for lunch today and had an overall positive experience. The Canucks Roll was a hit with my Sweetheart and my kids loved the tightly rolled California Roll pieces. I had the Salmon and Tuna sushi combo and the salmon slices were very flavourful. The tuna pieces were cut so that when I tried to bite through it the sinewy stuff inside pulled and made a mess. I do like the size of the pieces of sushi, a good size but not massive like so many places so now. One thing about the service which is typically very friendly and helpful is that they have a wall of pictures coloured by kids and yet even when people come in with kids they don’t just give you a picture to colour, you have to ask for it. I thought that was odd. Overall, very friendly, very clean and very tasty, well prepared food.

Chicken Teriyaki was inedible. We ordered chicken teriyaki takeout today, and it was quite horrible. Actually, we are not completely sure that it was chicken! Very tough, gristley, and undercooked. Did not taste like teriyaki either. Even though this is a very convenient location for us since we live two blocks away, we will never order this again!

Just poor quality. Been here 2-3 times and I don’t think we will be giving it another go. I couldn’t finish my tofu teriyaki cause it was inedible to me. Just a mushed, sickly sweet mess with the batter slipping off of the tofu. And I’m the person who leaves nothing on the plate usually. The Yam tempura roll must have been made and kept in the fridge for hours cause it tasted like leftovers and the rice felt very hard. The Veg Yaki Soba isn’t costly but I think with Veg in the name, there ought to be at least a few vegetables. Too many issues I think to list with the main theme just being that I couldn’t enjoy it despite being hungry. The strong smell of ammonia as they were mopping all around us while we were trying to eat didn’t help. They couldn’t wait 10 minutes for us to leave at the end of the night? At least the floors are clean I suppose.
