Five’s Top Ten Coffee Shops … Number Five!!!. As a confirmed coffee addict, I have tried nearly every coffee shop in Kelowna and the surrounding area. The Second Cup came in at number five on my list. I may edit this in the future, as I am sure there are some that I have not yet tried so I apologize if I have missed a favourite of yours. I chose my top ten on the following criteria: coffee quality, decor/environment, food quality and selection, service and washrooms. No preference was given to local shops versus big chains, they were all evaluated on the same criteria.So without further ado …5) Second Cup – The voting (between me myself and I) was really close on places 5 through 8. I resolved a potential deadlock by proposing that if the four (Second Cup, Cannery, KVR and Good Earth) of them were lined up along a street and I needed a cuppa and a sweet, which one would I choose? Although all four are great coffee shops, Second Cup won out on the strength of their sweets and their great outdoor seating, which unfortunately allows smoking. Side note to all local coffee shops that still allow smoking on their patios … Stop it. Back to Second Cup: Stay away from the regular coffee blend, as it leans to the bitter side, but the Americanos here are quite lovely.
