Argyle Attic is often one of the first places I think of when friends suggest going somewhere not too rowdy for drinks. They have a really unique decor with lots of vintage suitcases and the whole seating area is quite cozy. I believe the food menu is the same as Smith’s but there is a bar at Argyle and they have a great selection of beer, cocktails, and spirits. I like to get a Fat Tug and a whiskey. The person I was with got a cocktail that looked decent. The majority of points are going towards the drinks and atmosphere but Smith’s has good food too. I hope to return soon and I’m glad this place exists, it’s cozy and comfortable and cool!

Unique decor that’s for sure. It was a little strange as I made my way up the stairs to find myself in a very small dining room. It makes sense now why it’s called argyle ATTIC. We were greeted by the Bartender who told us to sit wherever we want. The atmosphere didn’t make me feel comfortable as we made our way to an empty table by the window/corner. There were about 3 tables of people so at least we weren’t the only ones there. After waiting a few minutes, the bartender comes and, surprise – he’s going to be our server too. Definitely was running a one-man show. At least he was friendly and soon when more people came to dine in I felt more comfortable being seated there. The only reason why I even knew about the place was I had a Groupon. I got the saanich tiki and front porch as recommended by the bartender/server and we had spring rolls (yum!), steak frites and my friend got the hippie chick vegetarian burger. I would come back for the drinks but in terms of dining there again, the menu was quite limited.

Horrible service but great place. I love the idea and decor behind this place. But the service has been consistently been really bad! I waited for ever for a drink. I had the bartender get mad at us for inquiring why our drink was taking so long. Absolutely disrespectful. He has been there for a while and every time we go in we dread having him. Management needs to get a new bartender because the potential for that place is really high… Too bad…

Mummified Fish. They get my vote for the worst fish & chips on the west coast of North America.

Worst Service I’ve Experienced. Went to Argyle Attic for a birthday party. It was made clear from the moment we walked in that we were unwelcome and we were treated with outright hostility for the entire evening. Guests kind of came and went with about 10-12 people there at all times. When someone tried to borrow an empty chair and was given the go ahead from the other patrons the bartender stormed over and admonished us and reamed me out for having too many people there. The chair had to go back and be empty and the people had to leave. Other rules we discovered – no standing with a drink in your hand, not allowed for a woman to sit on her bf’s knee to save space, not allowed to order certain things on the menu. The bartender poured out a guys beer because he walked to the bar with it. Our server was trying but the bartender was one of the rudest people I’ve ever encountered. He complained about our group, who were not doing anything out of the ordinary, openly and loudly to all other patrons. Will never go back.

Great drinks but horrible service!!. If you want delish drinks this is the place to go. However, last time I went here was for my birthday. I received horrible service, I only got asked for a refill once in the four hours I was there! The bar tender was clearly drunk. And the waitress was drinking and socializing with friends. The place itself is wonderful, but unfortunately I think their hirering staff is untrained and not proffestional. I am not recommending going here unless you are friends with the staff because our table of ten was ignored all night while the waitresses friends were served quickly. It took an hour for fries to be brought to our table! Fries! That is probably one of the fastest things to make in a kitchen and it took an hour for them to get to our table! At the end of the night we tried to get our bill. We had to ask the waitress four times. She kept forgetting. The place was not extremely busy, there was four or five empty tables. After waiting half an hour we went to the bar tender and asked what was the hold up and why we had gotten such bad service today. He was clearly drunk and did not have an answer for us. We had to them wait again while our waitress put one bill at a time through the till then took off to fill water and chat with her friends… It was clear that they did not care about our table or the fact that it was a birthday event! I did not get any happy birthdays or special drinks or anything! I do not recoment this as a birthday destination! Horrible service.
