I recently visited Be Love with a friend for the first time. Super excited to try out this place finally. I ordered the Karma bowl and unfortunately it came with two veggies, one of them chickpeas, which I can’t eat. The server definitely seemed ‘put off’ and finally said they could maybe do some white beans instead and that I should have mentioned I couldn’t eat chickpeas. I think the server probably should have mentioned what the daily two vegetable options were. My beans arrived and my chickpeas were nicely put in a side bowl to return. When the bill came I was charged for both the beans and chickpeas!! I feel so uncomfortable speaking up at restaurants. My friend contacted them the next day, as did I following my friend’s email. They apologized and wanted to correct the experience. After three emails I’ve had zero response. I definitely wouldn’t come again. The atmosphere felt arrogant and clique. Perhaps they need to reevaluate feeling too ‘comfortable’ with their success and understand new customer experiences. Blaming the customer for poor communication isn’t a great business model.
I went with 2 other folks because it was a vegetarian place. I was the only one that enjoyed my meal. My friend got the karma bowl (after being denied the whippersnapper, which is fair – she’s not a senior nor a child, but most of the other things contained food items she couldn’t eat or would make her ill. Not wanting to be rude, she compromised on the karma) and received their bowl without the sauce it was supposed to come with. The food without it was horribly bland, and my friend couldn’t cut the steamed greens and choked a few times trying to eat them. She ultimately had to eat using her hands for the most part to prevent herself from choking because the pieces were so large and she couldn’t simply chew through them. Some of the pieces of greens were as long as my forearm. My other friend go the ZLT and the zuccini bacon was so rigid she couldn’t bite through them, and so simply didn’t eat them due to sharp pain from how hard they were, but also because she couldn’t eat her sandwich with them on it. She was the reason why we went there as she is vegetarian, but she didn’t like her food either. She said it was passable. Both were meals that could easily be made at home, and the prices were quite expensive for what you got. I enjoyed my Green bowl, but it definitely seemed like two very different dishes ( a salad sitting ontop of a soup ), and the avocado was quite misplaced and wasn’t needed ( it was lost in the strong curry flavour ). The cocktails, however, were amazing. I feel bad as about 20 minutes after eating my friend got very sick from eating there. While I liked what I got, I agree the prices were unreasonably high ( but the cocktail prices made sense ), especially for food that you can just make in your own kitchen, and it’s unfortunate my two friends were so dissatisfied and that my other friend got sick. I likely will not return.
How have I not eaten here before? Killer vegan fare in Victoria. I had their mac & chee, which was delicious – creamy with cashew cheez, loaded with broccoli & greens – awesome. The autumn roll was an unexpected treat as an appetizer. Great spot!
Great lunch today – the green bowl was delicious! The masala burger was pretty good too. Only complaint was the long wait for food but I’m going back next week anyway!
Food is decent but don’t expect anything related to service. Seems they like to sit and forget. After food ya just wait and can’t get their attention. Sigh
OMG 100%!!!!. It is has to be one of the top three veg/vegan restaurants in BC….up there with Acorn in Vancouver and…..ok, top two! Lots of raw options…..clearly a labour of love. Great drinks too. Can’t say enough about this place…..
YUM. Went here today for an early lunch, and it was so good. The server was prompt and returned to ask how our food and juices were, and was very patient with our questions. We arrived at 11ish, just before the lunch rush – I definitely recommend going early! I had a ZLT and it was delicious! The ‘bread’ was a pretty typical raw bread, but it held together and didn’t fall apart like the breads I’ve tried to make. The sandwich was just so perfect tasting, I don’t know how to describe it – each component complemented the sandwich and made it amazing. We shared the ‘bruschetta’ which was again, so amazing tasting. A+++ will eat here again.
