Long lineups don’t always mean amazing food. My steak was as unexpectedly poor cut of meat and not cooked how I asked. The fries were nothing special. The girlfriend had a meal she also wasn’t impressed wit

A lovely restaurant for any occasion. We enjoyed our meals every time we’re there; the frites, the onion soup, the sirloin, the duck …. and the staff are very knowledgeable and courteous. Will definitely keep going back.

Went for dinner on my bday. It’s6pm and we get the last two seats in the house, at the bar.I had to google multiple menu items despite my partner being bilingual. They use some uncommon ingredients which tells me the chef is actually interested and inspired. The food is incredibly tasty. To start, we had chantrelles in brandy cream sauce on brioche. The portion was a tich small for the price but it IS chantrelles which are not cheap. And we were pretty hungry. It definitely wet our appetite. They were thoughtful enough to ask us if we wanted to sit at a table when it opened up and we did.For dinner I had Skate Wing (one of those things I had to google, haha). The fish was UMAMI-licious. It’s honestly the best darn fish I’ve ever eaten. There was a welcomed layer of savoury fish fat on the bottom of the fish, the meat was tender, flavourful and I think had a light flour dusting on the top.It came with perfectly cooked wax beans on top of a tomato, red pepper puree. And the star of the show: smoked pork hock croquette. This croquette is everything that is right in the world. Breaded and crunchy on the outside, soft, creamy, gooey on the inside. My dinner was a generous portion and good value for one of the more expensive restaurants in Victoria. My partner had steak frites with a side of mushrooms. The steak was cooked perfectly. The mushrooms were in some sort of delicious butter, green herb sauce. The fancy frites were a bit average and to be honest, another restaurant has the exact same fries (with truffle oil, garlic and parmesan) and they are better because you can taste the truffle more (my partner couldn’t taste it, I could, but it was subtle) and the other place puts a notable amount of parm. The fries we got, the parm was almost not there. If I had not tried the fancy fries elsewhere I would have been happy with these fries.I liked it so much there that I want to return on our anniversary. I think of the smoked pork hock croquette and my skate wing – often and fondly.

Arrived late in the evening, was offered a table for two, though elected to sit and dine at the bar. Great wine by the glass list, lots of reds to choose from, and the steak was memorable.

Perfect dining experience! If your gonna go, go and do it right. Bring a couple hundred bucks for you and a loved one, eat steak drink good wine, get all the deserts. Best food in Victoria.

Always good… except the fish. Great place for atmosphere, good beer and good food. Always excellent service. I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu, and the only thing that I wouldn’t order is the flavourless fish. They dress it up with sides to add flavour, but besides that, not much going on.Probably one of the best burgers and fries in town!

Fine dining in victoria!. WOW wow wow. First time dining at the brasserie l’ecole last night, and we will be sure to go back. My boyfriend and i arrived at 5:00pm on saturday, and waited in line until they opened the doors at 5:30. Although we were half an hour early we were the last group to get a table, so go early to ensure you are seated! We started our meal with french onion soup and the frites with a french 75. BEST french fries i have ever had, thin cut and seasoned with truffle oil, parmesan, and garlic to PERFECTION. The french onion soup was very good, however not the best french onion soup i have had. For entrees i chose the beef paleron, and the boyfriend chose the sturgeon. Both meals were heavenly, the meat was braised and was so tender. THe sturgeon was also very very good. The entrees were 26 and 28 dollars, in my opinion worth every dollar. With my paleron i asked the waiter to bring a wine that would pair nicely, she chose a lovely red from Bourdeaux for 9 dollars a glass. I was impressed that she did not bring one of the more expensive wines, and brought, in her opinion the best wine for my meal. It was lovely. Finely to finish off the spectacular night we had a classic creme brulee, and a sea salt chocolate torte with caramel. Both were delicious, but my favorite was the chocolate torte. I would order everything again, with perhaps, choosing something other than the soup for an appetizer. As i said, it was very good, but i think their other appetizer choices are better. Throughout the night the service was spot on, we were never left waiting for service to come. With 2 drinks, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts ordered our bill came to just over 100$, and i would pay it again. Thank you brasserie l’ecole for the wonderful evening, and wonderful service, we will be back!
