Help Edelweiss Through the Winter. Id like to pay patronage to the kind owners of Edelweiss Deli. Of all the places Ive eaten in Downtown Bob & Helen are the most favored and memorable. Ive been eating there for over 5 years now and it brings a smile to my face when I head there. You can always expect a cheerful welcome from them as well as some ACDC or Metallica music in the background due to Bob playing his heart. I dropped by yesterday and chatted with them and like most of us are really feeling the economic slump, specially the junior mining regulars. Bob told me all 18 previous years during Christmas they would give out Chocolates but this year they cant even afford the gesture. If youre in the area or not please do consider stopping by this gem of Vancouver. Support the family run business, there son just had a baby girl! They also do office orders with 2hr notice! Ill post pictures of their menus and will post a picture of the best reason to visit Helen & Bob.

Fun, Authentic Atmosphere, Good Sandwiches. Glad I visited this great little sandwich shop. The sandwiches and cost are about average, but it was the atmosphere that made this place special for me. A friend took me and upon entering we were greeted by two older Korean women and an older Korean man (named Bob). They greeted us by loudly calling out my friends name with a big show of raising their hands, like arriving at some sort of Italian family reunion. The sandwiches were simple with fresh ingredients, but certainly nothing fancy (though fairly priced). While we ate though was when the subtle charm of the place marinated into my veins as I realized that as the two women made sandwiches, Bob was rocking out playing classic 70’s rock on an electric guitar (it wasn’t hooked up though, so it was more of a quiet background tune). The decor was what I would expect from a modest sandwich shop, but you could see that Bob’s guitar playing was infectious, bringing a fun and unexpected atmosphere to eating there. The two women made the sandwiches, bopping their heads lightly and talking while doing so, and the majority of the patrons of the restaurant were enjoying Bob’s humble, but spirited performance. As we left I ordered a latte, which Bob interrupted his jamming to make for me. The latte was very good and better than average quality. Overall it was a good value. My only two reservations would be the cookies which were not totally fresh and disappointment that Bob didn’t have the guitar hooked up to really belt out some great tunes! If you want a fun, but not overly loud or overly fancy sandwich shop, a quick lunch, or just a place to be reminded that there are still people in the world who enjoy their jobs, I highly recommend it.
