I’ve always loved fujiya for two simple reasons. One is convience and two is a healthier option. Whenever I’m in a rush doing errands or driving all day in and out of traffic, it’s better then junk fast food. I wanted to highlight one particular item that this fujiya location has and the Grandview location doesn’t. The mini salmon box set. It’s $4.95!You get your omega 3 for the day and this meal fuels you better then fast food drive thru junk. Can’t go wrong with this on the go, or even for people who work downtown on a lunch break.
Great variety and relatively cheap compared to all the other food nearby. I just started working in one of the Bentall Towers and find lunch an incredibly difficult time in my day. The food around here is either too expensive (think $12+ for lunch) or fast food. One of my coworkers recommended me going to Fujiya in Bentall 1. It took me 3 lunches to finally find where the Fujiya was (walking on West Pender, if you see the Quiznos, the Fujiya is literally right behind it). This little market also carries a modest selection ofAsian snacks (Pocky, chips, drinks, bowl noodles etc) along with their varied sushi, soups, gyoza, bento boxes, and rice bowls. Today I got the Nigiri & Hosomaki combo $3.95 and the chopped scallop roll $4.75. It was okay, somewhat fresh, but nothing special. I can’t say it was delicious butIt was definitely filling and overall satisfying (better than supermarket sushi). I popped in at around 1:15pm and there was no line up and still a good variety of sushi left(my coworkers say there may be lineups during the lunch rush, but it moves fast). I definitely see myself coming back for lunch a few times a week. If you work in the area or want a quick eat I would recommend checking the place out! lifeofloriandzhuran.blogspot.com
Love this place for fresh everyday Japanese food and I stock up on tea and other items when I visit, so my tab is always high. Much to my dismay they charged me for a bag on my last visit. Great marketing ploy, charge your best customers extra!
Cheap pre-made sushi. Not the best in terms of taste, but adequate. Good place for a quick bite.
Really cute little shop, lots of choices in food and drink for a very good price. Enjoyed every bite, just sad I didn’t find this place sooner.
Hard to find, but worth it.. Fujiya can be a little hard to find – it’s buried in a ground level warren of lottery ticket and sandwich shops at the base of 1050 W. Pender. Once people find it, though, they tend to go back. Fujiya sells a wide variety of take out Japanese lunches: ten to fifteen different kinds of sushi and maki rolls, donburi, several deep fried pork cutlet and salmon dishes, sunomono and much more. Today I opted for a small triangle of rice with salmon wrapped in nori ($1.50), and a chirashi donburi for $5.95 (see photo at top left). Because the food is all pre-made, the rice is very cold and a little on the tough side, but the rice in the chirashi don broke up nicely when I mixed it around with the seafood. The place feels very authentically Japanese, and aside from the take-out lunches they have a wide variety of Japanese groceries – soups, cookies, candy and more Pocky than I’ve ever seen in one place. This would be a fun place to pick up a picnic with someone from out of town – it’s a quick walk from Fujiya down to Coal Harbour. Recommended for a cheap-and-cheerful lunch.
Simple Sushi. A-la-carte sushi at its best. Simple, tasty and express.
