This place is just alright. We had the beef tri-tip platter. It came with slaw, beans and cornbread. The beef was not very tender but that could just be the cut of beef. The sauce on it wasn’t very favourable. And the sides were not bad. The prices were pretty good for what you get. This is the only thing I’ve had here, maybe the other food is better. I was excited to go here, but I’m disappointed it was just average.
I consider Hanks a still undiscovered Gem in Victoria. Despite the space’s small size the meals pack in big, well thought out flavours. Service is great as you get to order often from the chef himself, so no going back and forth with the servers. The meal comes straight to you, in a matter of seconds of being done. Expect sometimes local, always flavourful, and sometimes the exotic as the menu is ever changing. I’ve had the Pork Chop with Beer Gravy and Apple Butter, Stupid Fatty Lamb Ribs, Vietnamese Sausage and the Pulled Pork with Oyster and I can say I dream of having them again. I have to go now, I am making myself hungry.
Good barbecue. Not the best, but pretty good.Best item is probably the pulled pork. They add a little bit of zest and spice. I like the cornbread, ribs, and beef brisket too.Portion sizes are okay, leaning towards the small side.Prices are okay. Some items are reasonable, but some items are overpriced.Atmosphere is okay. The restaurant is set up like a fast-food joint, although that’s not really what it is.One problem is organization. Sometimes random events pop up and the restaurant is closed…or the normal menu isn’t available. I can count a few times when I’ve shown up, and the restaurant is unexpectedly closed
Delicious food with generous portions. The staff was really friendly too. My only complaints are the limited seating and the food might be spiced a little too much for those with blander tastes.
Unbelievably Yummy!. I’ve heard great things from a few people so I decided to try Hank’s out. I wasn’t expecting the terrific meal I got! I ordered the venison on biscuit, with pork jowl bacon, green chili and caramelized onions, melted cheese and a dash of OHMYGOODNESS I just had the best meal of my life. Generous portion, pork jowl bacon was to die for. The beans and cornbread were lip smacking fabulous. If you’re planning your last supper, unlock those handcuffs and eat it here.
Decent food. Best grits ,all around legit cooked meats these guys got it going on!
Go when you’re hungry. I’ve been to Hanks several times and I have been very happy with all of my choices. The only problem is their portions are huge. I would prefer they have half sizes for people who prefer smaller portions.I read some negative reviews below. I have always had great food: pulled pork, pulled duck and the side dishes were great. I’ve only been there for lunch though.
