Awesome Perogies—Best Ever!!. I guess they are still closed for the season, but I still fondly remember those Yummy Perogies that I had at all those Victoria Festivals. I only like the regular perogies with that delicious coleslaw! I’ve tried the Thai ones and the Mexican ones but they are not for me. Can’t wait for them to reopen…
One of the best food trucks in Vic. YUM! Perogies are homemade and are given fresh twists on old classic. I fully suggest to try their Perogie Slapdown because it’s the friggin best.
Student lunch. Working in a food truck is all about customer service. If you are grumpy or upset about something, leave it behind. A sour disposition has no place on a food truck. When a customer smiles at you, smile back. Ignoring them or giving them a distasteful look, will only serve to make them uncomfortable. These potential return customers, Won’t return. Not only do we vote with our feet and not go back, we tell everyone we know about our experience. Even if the food was the best we ever tasted, the experience as a whole leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The food was ok, but overpriced. I had the mexicanka. Six perogis were drizzled with an aioli, a dollop of sour cream and not even a tablespoon of the salsa. Let us not forget the few shreds of cheese and the two cilantro leaves (one of which was visibly going off) and then some dry cabbage on the side (including a chunk of core). Thank goodness I found the sauce under the cabbage. It was pretty tasty…same aioli that was drizzled on perogis. It would have been even better if the cabbage had been fresher. That was a $10 plate. Add the dollar tip you feel guilty enough to include. It was satisfactory but definitely not worth the $11.By the way, the gentleman who made my plate was, in contrast to his co-worker, the epitome of customer service. If I ever devide to go back, it will be thanks to his genuinely affable attitude.
So Good We Ate There Twice. Went for the weekend to Victoria and were lucky enough to be there for Canada Day celebrations. We stopped by the Hungry Rooster and had the Curanka. So delicious. I consider myself a complete food snob so for me to be this surprised is rare. Even rarer is going back for more. We went back the next day and tried the Thai plate. Just as good as the first day. The staff made it even more of pleasant experience. I would highly recommend.
Even though they gave away my order making for an extra long wait, the Curanka was worth it. I wondered if the price was excessive for 6 perogies, but found the portion size to be filling for lunch. Deep fried potato and cheese perogies covered with house made curry sauce, raita and a side of slaw. Some serious fusion food. The perogies were crisp on the outside, yet tender and moist. The sauce was flavorful and I enjoyed the generous portion of raita on top. Slaw was also crisp and fresh with a nice dressing. Not sure if I would try the Mexican or Thai inspired dishes next time or go back for the same.
Yummmm!. Recently had poutine at La Belle Patate, and didn’t realise how much I disliked it until I tried the Poutinka at the Hungry Rooster. Delicious miso gravy and melting cheese over lovely lovely fries, and with two adorable perogies. Yum yum yum. I’m making myself hungry all over again.
Poutinka! It’s not only fun to say…. After a few fries, I was thinking, what on earth is this flavour? Examining the fry, I didn’t notice any salt or spice specks to give me a clue. Then I remembered that it was flavoured with miso gravy. What a hit. A light sweet/salty taste that really begged me wanting more. I suggest the mushroom/skraut perogies as it helped cut the grease a bit. Homemade Chipotle sauce was a great refreshing addition and came straight out of the fridge. A great cold compliment to the piping hot dish. I will be back!
