Fun spot to go with friends with tons of games to choose from. Milkshakes are also a hit! My only complaint is that the staff can be quite rude if you have outside food with you. I had a small bag of snacks, and an employee rudely told us to put them away, rather than simply reminding us of the rules in place. Overall a great time though.
Walked in. Seemed busy but no where near capacity. Neither of us noticed any signage indicating how the place worked so we went browsing the games. Following that we sat down with the game again because there wasn’t any obvious examples on what to do.10 minutes later after we’d sat down and started trying to figure out a game a staff member informed us that the table we’d picked was reserved. She said we’d have to visit the front and register for a seat as there was a wait list. With no where to sit while waiting and 4 empty tables in the place we figured it was more fun to head back to our hotel.Have been to multiple places similar to this in Vancouver and, even if we’d make a mistake we were never told basically to leave when there were tables available. Talk about a shitty first impression. I’ll stick to the actual game stores once I move to Victoria full time.
The board games really are the only reason to come here. Don’t get me wrong, that’s still a pretty good reason, but the food was nothing to be happy about. The milkshakes didn’t match their flavours (for example the peppermint didn’t taste minty at all), the chips, candy and popcorn (while good) don’t really count towards food capabilities, and the cheese and salami platter was just straight up gross. I didn’t try the sandwiches, which could very well have saved them, but I have celiacs disease. And whilst they do have gluten free bread available, I didn’t trust them to have proper contamination procedures in place.
Food was not great, but the milkshakes & popcorn were awesome!!! What a fun place. Def recommend the fun, games & volunteer game experts are more than worth the $5 admission fee
Love the place!. Really love this place it’s a great place to hang out, and get food and drinks. they have great drinks, their food is alright, nothing special but can’t really complain either. if you want to go I suggest you try and go a week day, or a week day evening. usually fri-sun nights are so packed you can’t even get a table! they only take one reservation a night for large groups, so try and get there early
Awesome place to hang out with friends!. Great price, amazing staff, and a wide variety of games to play. What can I say?
Not just for gaming nerds…how has this place not been around for years!? GREAT date idea!. LOVE the boardgame cafe! At first I went in hesitantly thinking the place would be full of…well…nerds. But what I found instead was astounding! So many different types of people from families with members of all ages, couples on double dates, groups of friends wanting a cheaper alternative to drinking at the bars etc. The food is very reasonable, the milkshakes are a must (I still have to try to bacon-milkshake) and for only $5, you can have hours of fun! We didn’t know much in the way of boardgames except for Monopoly so the employees/volunteers were kind enough to take the time to introduce my group to several new and entertaining games and sat down to teach us how to play them until we got the hang of it. My one complaint is that it can be a bit loud in there. Ive been 3 times now and will certainly be going again and again. Ive recommended it to all my coworkers and friends. Basically, it’s like sitting in your mom’s basement playing boardgames with your friends and eating nice home made food!
