Very friendly & polite staff. Great menu with lots of choices. I had the crab bisque it was really delicious ! We also ordered fish and chips. The fish was a little oily and there was quite a bit of batter larger then the fish inside. Great beer selection and non alcoholics options.
Honestly this was quite a let down. After hearing for years about how good this pub is we took a friend visiting from Australia here for his one and only dinner in Victoria BC. I ordered cod and chips, my wife the steak salad and our friend the bacon bree burger. The pub was barely half full when we entered and a few servers were standing around. About 10 min later they took our drink and food orders all together (since we waited so long…) Bonus point for Dark Matter on tap. Our food arrived very quickly so that was good considering how long we waited initially. My wife had ordered her steak medium rare but it was barely rare. The salad didn’t have much flavour at all and was very underwhelming as a main. My fish was decent, large pieces of cod but my chips were over cooked and a dark brown rather than a golden brown. The bacon bree burger got a good report but also the chips were over done. Our server was pleasant but it took her so long to come check on us that we were all done our dinner except my wife who was waiting for her to check on us and get the steak cooked as requested. By the time she came we were ready to leave. Server agreed the meat was well under cooked and comped it which is nice but doesn’t speak volumes for the quality of attention in the kitchen. Too many tried and true pubs in Victoria… All chefs need to know how to properly cook a steak to order and don’t over cook the fries! next!
I don’t know why there’s so many middle-of-the-road reviews on this place! It’s everything you want out of an Irish pub, but rarely get. Service was friendly but a bit slow (to be fair this place is massive), and all of the comfort food we ordered was way above what I was expecting. Home cooked but in a good way.
