I ordered the Soya pork broth. Broth was pretty good but a bit thick near the bottom. My main issue is that all of my toppings were cold. The mushrooms, greens, egg and bamboo shoots were all really cold. After discovering this I pushed everything down in to the broth to try and warm it up, but even after a minute or so my egg was still really cold. Broth was quite warm but not piping and didn’t do a great job of warming everything else up. I get that it was lunch rush but when I say cold, I don’t mean less warm, I mean COLD like right out of the cooler cold. Again, lunch rush so I ate it and left because I had to get back to work,.
Im on vacation in Victoria and although Ive been to this lovely city before, Ive walked past Menbow several times and never went in. I finally got a chance on Nov 28, 2018. When I walked in, I was promptly greeted and selected a seat by the window. Menu is simple (most great noodle places are like this). I ordered miso ramen with heavy tonkatsu broth, extra noodles, and extra BBQ pork. Hey, if Im going to eat ramen Im going all out.Food came quickly and I dove in. Broth was absolutely delicious and rich, almost like a gravy. Noodles were also delicious, long and wavy with the right amount of chew. Accompaniments were also yummy (bamboo shoots were being substituted for ground pork). BBQ pork had a lovely layer of fat which added another level of lip smacking goodness. Total came to $20 including all taxes. What a deal! This place is Japanese run and is totally legit. Service was prompt and very friendly. Would definitely go here again.
Broth was delicious (chicken, salt, heavy flavour). BBQ pork was bland and far too fatty and chewy. Loved the spinach, mushrooms and bamboo shoots. Gyoza was burnt in some spots and needed more flavour and green onion in the pork mixture as it was quite bland. Noodles and egg were cooked perfectly. I liked the promotional video they made for themselves showing the process, but didn’t need to see 10+ times on a loop in the main area.Kuma and I Kyu Noodles are still the best in town for ramen.
Disappointing :(Nice setting, clean & staff were friendly. Appetizer Tempura was great. Three of us ordered 3 diff styles of ramen (shoyu, miso & spicy miso) all of us chose option for pork broth. Egg was over cooked. Broth was pretty lacklustre. Noodles were nice. Prob won’t return, will keep working my way through the ramen joints in the city. My cousin said the one at University Heights was waaay better than what we had today
Loved it! The spicy miso ramen was absolutely amazing! I will definitely come back for more. The Geozas were delicious and the staff were helpful and very friendly. I would recommend this place to all of my friends.
