We arrived at 6:30pm , chose to eat from the buffet ($25 per person) the buffet had run out of naan and the two only meat dishes, butter chicken and lamb.It took them 30 minutes to marginally refill the buffet and we managed to score a couple of pieces. The waitress wasn’t very attentive and forgot our drinksOne of the 2 dessert choices was stale marshmallows to be dipped in a chocolate fountain with little bugs flying around it There are too many tables cramped in to this place too close to the buffet
Such a great buffet, with huge selection to choose from! Delicious butter chicken ! Service is good and the price of the buffet is good too. If you’re looking to change up your lunch rut, come here for something exciting! Yum!
(January 2017) I am downgrading my rating as I still think the food is better tasting and more memorable at other restaurants.(December 2016 update) I have been here three times this year, and ordered off the menu each time (ie I have not tried the buffet). The menu is extensive and although they are making the dishes match the descriptions, the food is not something I seek out, and over time, none of the dishes stand out as memorable. What is memorable is the size of the restaurant (large) and the decor, and the extensive list of choices on the menu. The food is ok. I ordered lamb saagwala and the lamb pieces came with large portions of fat not cut out. The second visit, I ordered a different lamb dish and the server assured me it wouldn’t be fatty. It was tougher than I expected. My dining companion enjoyed his food. The portions are large but not as big as other restaurants for the price. Chai tea is served in a shallow teapot, takes a long time to be served, ends up filling a couple of small Chinese teacups, and is not refillable, which was very disappointing. I like to drink chai with my entire meal. They apparently are extraordinarily popular in Alberta but perhaps with so many good restaurants, we are a bit more fussy here? Get a larger table if you plan to order more than one dish so the dishes will fit on the table. One redeeming factor is that they are open late so if you crave Indian late you can go. Dishes we tried: saffron rice (yellow but bland), cumin rice-ok.,lamb saag, lamb roganjosh, butter chicken, chettinad with tamarind, chicken masala, goat biryani, eggplant. The online menu looks like they may have pared down the options. These are the ones I remember ordering but the taste doesn’t stay with me. The servers rave about the food, but I would honestly recommend other restaurants over this one. (3.5)
Delicious! We went here on Saturday night for the buffet dinner. Needless to say the selection of food was amazing. Several salads to choose from, as well as the typical butter chicken, chicken tikka, and at least four vegetarian curries, and a seriously succulent goat curry. And the naan bread was also really tasty! For dessert there was fresh fruit or pineapple custard, and rice pudding. We will be back!!
I was there a week ago and it was cold in the place. So I ate my dinner with my jacket on. I ordered the lamb Korma and the meat was tough….which I find really irritating!! The flavour was not worth noting either. The service was great but the food was just BLAH! Won’t be going back anytime soon.
This is my new go-to place for East Indian food. I knew this was going to be good because as soon as the front door opened, I was smacked in the face with the intoxicating aroma of sweet eastern spices. It just got better from there…We got the royal treatment on this Wednesday, June 1st at 6pm. We were greeted warmly by everyone, included the proud owner, who rightful bragged about how much he has invested in the renovations to this historic Victoria building on the corner of Wharf and Yates. Well done! The buffet was the perfect way to feed our hungry group and everyone was raving about the more than 30 items offered. We sampled items off the menu as well. The Chicken Tikka was the best I’d ever had and believe me, I’ve eaten that dish all over the world. The service matched the food quality, which matched the ambiance and it’s all happening in a fabulous downtown location. 5 Stars all the way. I can’t wait to return!
Visited New Asian Village for the first time and had the lunch buffet it was great! I have hit all the local Indian restaurants for their buffets over the course of the last two years and while most are decent this one definitely stands out. Nice decor, very good service. Looking forward to trying their dinner menu.
