Beautiful restaurant fast attentive staff. They serve standard Japanese restaurant fare plus some interesting Korean dishes. The lunch bento is a great deal.
Definitely not comparable to the Asian fares you’d find in Vancouver. However, not bad in terms of the diversity and innovation found on its menu.I ordered the Black Bean Noodles and a side order of the Kimchi Pancakes. The dishes came in a reasonable manner as I was part of a party of 6. The noodles itself was a bit smaller in size that I had expected, but the sauce was exactly what a black bean noodle should taste like. The shredded meat in the sauce made it somewhat worthwhile. As for the pancake, it would’ve been nice to have it served on a sizzling plate (Or placed on a iron plate, just to satisfy the typical Korean pancake look). It was nothing special, but the Kimchi pieces could’ve been slightly smaller.
I had a pleasant first visit to Park’s Kitchen. Today I tried the Sashimi Bento consisting of 2 slices salmon sashimi, 2 slices tuna sashimi, wakame salad, green salad with ginger soy dressing, 4 pieces of California roll, 1 fried dumpling, rice with steak sauce, slice of orange and miso soup. The square slices of fish were just wide enough for me to put wasabi inside and fold over with my chopsitcks. The ginger soy dressing was just right over the crisp head lettuce and cabbage salad. I saw pre-made California rolls at the sushi bar – common due to the expected rush of lunch specials, but the consistency of the rice and seasoning was appropriate. Like the photos, the rolls had a thin layer of rice with a larger amount of filling. This could be a good thing, more flavour, less bulk, but I will have to try some of the other rolls another time to get a better feel for them, as the large amount of imitation crab in a California roll is not my preference. The dumpling felt more of a mandu (Korean) dumpling, not a gyoza (Japanese), which is perfectly fine. The issue I had with it was that it was limp and greasy. Either fry it with less oil or deep fry it. The steak sauce had good flavour and was not too salty. It might be second to my favorite in Victoria – that from Japanese Village which has a more creamy consistency. I enjoyed the diversity of the meal, with the token amount of wakame a nice touch. I will definitely return to try some more sushi and the Korean food. They serve a dolsat bibimbap! The price is among the best in the city at time of writing, so I hope the food quality remains high and the prices low. Combined with the friendly staff, this could easily become one of my favorite destinations.
