Dinner thats not what I would call it. I orders a dinner for 2. First off, dinner was cold. Not col, COLD. Had to microwave it o warm it up.2 the portions, for 2 NOT…. 2/3 a cup of sweet and sour pork. 2/3 a container of noodles with 6 SMALL pieces of chicken. the chow mein, veggies limp, tasteless and also COLD. That was the WORST 30.00 I ever orders. THE WORST.
Best In Town. TBH, if you really like that western Canadian Kung Pao Chicken style chinese food, this is not for you. Also, for you guys who said Don Mee is better,Don Mee is definitely better with dim sun in the morning but if you are talking about authentic chinese food, this is the place to go. They have really good food and very nice service. A few suggestions: (dong po meat) is the best dish Ive ever had so far being there couple dozen times. Please know how to order good chinese food before selecting some random dishes that barely any chinese will ever order.
The boss is very nice however when he is not here the waitress becomes super bitchy… If you don’t understand something from the menu and ask for her help she swears at you in chinese.
Didn’t like. I had the food delivered, I have to give them that they were fast…but that’s about all…. My deep fried wonton were exactly that, deep fried wonton wrappers, no meat or anything in them. The deep fried chicken wings were overdone. Eggroll, was cabbage and a couple of carrots wrapped up and thrown in the same oil as the beef chop suey tasted like. As did the chow mein; like come on people you’re in the heart of China Town and this is the best you can do??? I won’t be ordering from here again.Dissatisfied Customer.
Fist time at this resturant. Went in to try their 7 $ special for take out, sweet and sour pork was great, egg roll best ever and the chow mein noodles were burnt to the point even tasted burnt. To many steps to get up to the place. But friendly polite service.when I called and complained they were willing to make a new order and appoligised for the burnt food.@
Best food in Victoria BC. We have been eating at Shanghai City Chinese since the new owner Jin took over the restaurant. We are from Seattle, WA, but originally from Shanghai, China. The food has always been excellent, tasty, cooked just right and the price is very reasonable. The owner Jin is professional, friendly and courteous and the servers are friendly. The restaurant is clean and the decoration is classy. If you like real good Shanghai food, come to Shanghai City Chinese Restaurant and you will enjoy the tasty food for yourself. Our favorite food in this restaurant is black bean crab, honey pork chops, steamed fish with black bean sauce, baby bok choi, Shanghai steamed buns, honey walnut shrimps, and so on. Let Jin order for you, and your will enjoy the best food in Victoria!!!Gordon
The absolute best Chinese in town. Let Jin the new owner bring what he likes. You will be delighted and eat authentic dishes, not the usually Canadian version of Chinese. I am a food snob and am always impressed and amazed with each new dish I try.
