Overpriced and underwhelming. The sushi here is overpriced for the quality you receive. When we ordered salmon sashimi, it arrived as Atlantic salmon rather than Sockeye – and it was not mentioned that there were 2 different kinds. The Atlantic salmon was cut too large and you could barely fit it into your mouth. Atlantic Salmon should not be used for Sashimi, and if it is used, the service staff should point out the 2 options – we would have happily paid more to enjoy our dish. The spicy tuna roll had so much sauce mixed into the Tuna that it was almost inedible. You could no longer even taste the fish, and also the fish was mashed with the sauce, so even the texture of the fish was unrecognizable. The Dynamite Roll was more like a glorified California Roll – it had too much imitation crab meat and also had lettuce inside – which I feel is always a bad sign. It fell apart immediately upon contact with the chopstick. Fusion Rolls…we had the Hot Night Roll. Although the better of the 2 rolls, it was way overpriced and had the same negative issues experienced in the spicy Tuna Roll. The service was pretty awful as well. Although the server was kind, the server knew nothing of the menu and clearly had not been trained. She was very kind and also keen, but a simple 10 minute lesson and a menu tasting for this person would have been very helpful to both customer and employee. Also, the interior of this restaurant requires love. I received a sliver from the table and the ladies washroom had tissue stuck in the broken handle to prevent being able to see into the stall – somewhat reminiscent of a cheap nightclub washroom…without the sticky floors.
I really liked he decor/atmosphere. I just didn’t really enjoy the food very much. Other places I like more in town.
It was sad honestly. My 16 year old took me there because it was Mother’s Day and wanted to buy me dinner. I was to have the baked fusion california roll. My son ordered another dish of sushi which came to him in about 15 minutes – i was to wait 45 minutes for them to tell me in almost sign language that they had dropped it on the ground. I remember looking at the chef and seeing him trying to put something together from the ground but never would have thought. My son meanwhile had eaten his and the same waiter asked if I would I like something else. I just said no not now. They gave us the bill and my son felt so aweful that he couldn’t even take his mom out for the first dinner he was to pay for with his new job. I noted not one other mom in the restaurant so i felt really bad for my son. They didn’t even offer to comp his dinner. It was like it was no big deal. So thoughtless – I will never ever go back. I do know that we had been there before and the last waitress spilled tea on me when pouring it. I forgave that but not again. Third time really unlucky I’m sure of it. Terrible customer relations.
I was on a mission to find the Spiciest Tuna Roll of Victoria, and that extensive quest ended here, because this is the one. Spicy, delicious, lots of fish and not too much rice. I go here all the time, I bring friends here all the time and they all love it too. Lots of fun fusion rolls, and if you are in the mood for a gimmick, the blazing unagi roll arrives surrounded with FIRE! Pointless, but fun, I enjoy a little drama with my meal. Delicious drama. The absolute only negative is that they are a little sketchy with their closing time, so just don’t arrive too close to closing.
I would return. I tried lunch here today with my wife for the first time since it changed from a Korean restaurant into a Japanese restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the sushi boat for 2 and found the slices of sashimi to be quite large. The dynamite roll had 2 prawns in it, and the spicy tuna roll had a kick to it. The nigiri was not bound to the rice with a blob of wasabi. I did find a salmon scale (sashimi?) and a stringy bit attached to a bone in the spicy tuna roll, so it was not the most skillfully prepared. But the rice was prepared nicely, even though I thought it was a bit on the firm side. It was better than a Vancouver AYCE place, which is my (low) standard for a non-AYCE sushi restaurant. I would recommend it and will return.
Sockeye Sushi Rocks!. I had the pleasure of trying Sockeye Sushi today for lunch! it was absolutely fabulous and I would recommend it to anyone, whether they adore sushi or not. They are innovative in their approach and their menu is great.
Thank you Sockeye!. I come to Sockeye for any of their cream cheese rolls. They are SO good. I’ve always had a great dining experience here.
