Lacklustre at bestWhen you hear the Cook exclaim from the kitchen yes I made the meatballs fresh in a mocking tune, one quickly questions their expectations. Side salad flat and dull. Basic commercial bagged salad. Spaghetti and meat balls… contrary to menus description they are again commercial bagged product with the taste of the fillers used instead of actual beef. Interior decor is extremely dated. Reminiscent of a seventies era cafe….
Old Spaghetti Factory. Yes. This place. I know I’m risking losing you, but bear with me. Yes, this is a chain family restaurant in the corner of tourist central. But holy heck do my wife and I love this place. It is very hard to convince my friends of this concept. So anyway, let’s break it down. Their menu is INCREDIBLY affordable. I can order a pasta and meat sauce for next to nothing that comes with an entire bowl of soup, starter bread, and an ice cream dessert. This was the initial inspiration for us to go here – where’s a place that lets you get all the little touches and pay almost nothing? I think Old Spaghetti Factory is one of few places like that. And for a chain, it’s not THAT chain-y. It has that kitschy menu with old timey imagery on it. The staff are all super genuine and friendly, it seems to be a cute community that isn’t so abused by management that they become jaded. They’re all just trying SO hard. They’re friendly and real. The food is exactly what you’d expect and a little bit more. I love a good old standard pasta dish and that’s all they do! The minestrone soup is really good. This is kind of the closest thing to Olive Garden that Victoria has but we should treasure it. The pasta is like… pretty good. But it’s the combination of service and all the extras that makes this place great. Yes, I’m giving Old Spaghetti Factory a 4. I really believe in that. I stand by it. Look at my photos. Look at that meat sauce glisten. If you don’t get drinks, you can get an entire well-served full course meal for cheaper than a fast food combo. This place knows its niche and thrives in it. Hope it stays here forever. If you expect the best, I will admit the food quality falls slightly short. But it makes up for it in so many ways – variety, quantity, service, values – that who cares? Love it.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have thought to come here if my friend hadn’t injured her leg and we couldn’t walk very far. But I was pleasantly surprised by the service and food. First of all, for the amount of money you’re paying this place is AWESOME. Delicious bread, soup or salad, pasta AND dessert are all included in a very reasonable price. It’s a great family restaurant and the food is actually quite tasty. Well worth it!
Tastes like every other Spaghetti Factory I’ve been to, and the wait for a table on the weekend is just as long. Their pastas are overwhelmingly standard, though I won’t complain too much with their meals being priced as well as they are. Two things that stand out to me there are the delish garlic butter that comes with their bread, and the spumoni ice cream (I’m a sucker for pistachio anything).
Great time. Was there with my husband tonight and our experience was amazing. Had a reservation and we had been seated promptly. Our service was excellent and the food was great. We will return.
Late lunch/early supper may be the best time to go. We lucked out on what was an otherwise busy day at this restaurant. We went right between the lunch and dinner rush, so we got a table right away and the restaurant was fairly quiet. The meal was pretty tasty, not anything spectacular but good solid food for a good price, and they give you lots of extras. As we were finishing up, a party of 20 or so 10-year-olds came in so we beat feet out of there just in time!
