This used to the THE place for Chinese food, but unfortunately it isnow a mere shadow of it’s former self, after changing hands more often than one can count, it is. Most recently they have degraded the quality of their chicken to what I’m assuming is meat from old egg laying hens, as I do buy those occasionally for making stock. Tough, stringy, chewy, with a weird after taste. At least they are not serving cats. You can’t get decent Chinese food in Victoria anymore. If you want good Chinese food you have to make it yourself.
While the BBQ pork platters can’t really compare to Vancouver (small portions and slightly too lean meat), they are probably the best and most authentic in town. The pork buns, on the other hand, are awesome. They’re massive, soft, slightly sweet and packed with moist, flavourful meat. If you have a small appetite, you could really order 2 of these instead of a rice/noodle platter. Just as filling at half the cost. 😛
