Stopped for a break here, while visiting market square and so glad we did. Had the lige waffle with fresh strawberries, ice cream & whipped cream. Was pleasantly surprised to find most of the toppings were made from scratch, which makes such a difference to the flavour of food. AND the hot chocolate had real chocolate in it & none of that bottled chocolate syrup. The owner was manning the deck & one could feel the love & passion as he took us through the options. Spoilt my lunch ….. but will definitely do it again .
Enjoyed the Lige waffle at Wannawafel cart. Saw on Dragons Den so been on my to-try list… and it didn’t disappoint! The petite Lige is the most common waffle found in Belgium, an adaptation of brioche bread dough with a light sprinkling of coarse sugar that caramelizes on the outside of the waffle when baked in an iron. Crispy on outside, with that caramelized top, and warm, buttery rich on inside. Authentically Belgian. Not too sugary nor too big. Simple but simply that good. I’ll visit the little Market Square shop next time to try the notso-sweet light and golden Brussels waffle and assortment of delicious-looking dessert toppings. They do traditional waffles well…
