came here during dine out, the restaurant that i was kinda curious about, the interior looks very good in a restaurant that is placed in a slightly more sketchy part of downtown, but never the less food wise, i was satisfied, it’s a latino bar food with finer materials and better presentation. overall it’s definitely good food. but at the same time the portion will be smaller. the combination of all food was great. will definitely come back again if my friend is inviting me 😀 mangkr.wordpress.com
Amazing bar food with a twist. The duck tacos were so good we had to order a 2nd plate! The slow roasted pork belly was melting in my mouth and the guava puree was out of this world! The ceviche of tuna albacore was really fresh too.
A little weary of Dine Out by now, this was the only restaurant I tried during DOV this year. I can honestly say that I wasn’t disappointed. There’s no sign with the restaurant’s name to be seen anywhere outside…just look for the skull. As you enter the restaurant, it is a large open space with with an open kitchen. Clean and spacious. My mescale cocktail (El Oscuro) was great. Not stingy on alcohol and delicious. I started with the trout ceviche which I found to be bright & zesty. I loved that they served it with crispy skin pieces. It added a nice crunch to the dish. The cucumbers and basil brought a very refreshing note to the dish.Second course was a taco. I had the pulled pork. It was one of the best tacos I ever had, but my wife thought the mole lamb taco that she had was the best. The meats in both were cooked until perfectly tender and the flavors were deep. The mango and papaya salsa in the pulled pork taco added a nice tangy touch. My entree consisted of a steak grilled and sliced to perfection, served on top of ceaser salad and mashed potatoes. The meat was well seasoned, but I thought that the ceaser salad was underwhelming and didn’t pair well with the steak. My dessert was fantastic. The tres leche was light and not too sweet. I just wished that it was larger 🙂 We will definitely be back to try their regular menu. And we’re inspired to eat more Latin foods.
Cuchillo is great. The staff are friendly and know everything about the dishes and drinks. The room is comfortable and softly lit. The music selection is always eclectic and appropriate and the kitchen staff, which are fully visible all look happy and like they’re having fun cooking the food with their chef/owner who is on the line every time I’ve been here. The man clearly loves making this food, which is delicious and generously portioned.
Very impressed with this place! Went to first time for Dine Out and they had an excellent selection and the server made great drink pairing suggestions – been back again and quality still the same – excellent and consistent, always a great combination!
Loved the atmosphere at cuchillo from the open kitchen to the skull designs and large tables for sharing. They have great house wine and a fair selection of tequilas, don’t pass on the drinks! The menu was designed to be shared, and they will scale the dishes according to how many people are in your party. Guacamole was delicious and a generous portion, trout ceviche is a creative dish and good way to start your meal. The mint and cucumber are very refreshing, but the portion was small and not ideal for sharing. The rock fish tacos were perfectly crisp and well seasoned although they are messy if you eat with your hands. Both the prawn and pork belly mains had a ton of flavour but were super rich and needed a punch of acidity badly (I ended up putting some guac on my plate which helped a lot actually). These were the last dishes to come out and half of our table couldn’t finish, they are quite heavy and filling. Service was decent, price was fair and a great atmosphere for large groups.
A nice place consider the area it’s in. Quite amused by the taste and the variety of the food. I thought it was was really good for a tapas place. We order the Yuca Frita with the lemon aioli sauce, very tasty. The pulled duck taqueria was a tad under seasoned, but the Confit of local Octopus was very tasty and not too chewy, which was perfect. The star of the night was the Dulce de leche was OUTSTANDING! There was so much taste to it that I absolutely fell in the love with this dessert, but topping it with a crunchy churro just made my night! Service there was great! Very friendly people and very willing to explain what’s on the menu and what is good and what we should come back for. Love, love, love!
