Brunch in Duncan. Great spot for weekend brunch. Very close to the local farmer’s market
A little gem. Very artful, delicious, beautifully-executed food by an inspired chef. The renovation to the two houses that make up the bar and restaurant are top notch – no funky mismatched chairs and garage-sale finds here. This is the best restaurant I visited on my recent trip to the Island and Salt Spring Island. My only comment is that the male server who spoke to us on the phone to make a reservation and then served us was nothing short of pompous and more than a bit passive-aggressive. We were told there were no openings until 8:30 p.m., so did not reserve. changed our minds and called back at 7:50. We were told there were now no reservations. Then we were told to come right away. The waiter actually hung up on me. when we arrived, we were shown unceremoniously to our table. Questions were ignored until it was convenient for him to answer. In all, we were treated as though an annoyance. A young female server who helped out was lovely, as was Chef owner Hudson who visited at the end of the night. A little helpful criticism for the male server, please.
Not impressed. Although the venue is lovely, the servings are too small to satisfy anyone, even with an appy and dessert. The background music would sometimes become so loud it was difficult to carry on a conversation. The waitress was less than personable, and the mussel dinner came in a large bowl with nothing else, save for a small side pail, would you believe, of bad french fries. We won’t go back to Hudson’s any time soon.
A fabulous Dinner. While we had been for lunch a number of times, this was our first dinner trip to Hudson’s and it was spectacular. My wife is a vegetarian and while I did my best to make up for her with ordering the sublime pork cheeks appetizer, she found much to enjoy even with the small menu. Everything was superbly presented, the pace was great and the server (Danny) was excellent.Well worth the driver for you out of towners…
What a wonderful meal, fantastic service & lovely, warm ambience. I had been wanting to try Hudsons for some time. It did not disappoint. It is a very egant, but not stuffy, restaurant. It is apparent that the owners haven taken great care & paid attention to details. The space is beautifully restored. The meal was excellent: seared scallops cooked to perfection with a delicious lemon pure, pine mushroom risotto & Arctic char. It was a most memorable meal, fairly priced. We will certain make the trip back to Duncan from Victoria, as the meal, service & surroundings were well worth the drive.
A gem on first. Lovely lunch today.Crab salad amazing.Service attentive but not obtrusive. Lovely attention to detail. Duncan is lucky to have this first class restaurant . We will be back.
Fantastic meal. My friends and I were stopped by Hudson’s on First for dinner on Sunday. I had heard about this restaurant from my friend who live in Cowichan Valley. Since the chef was on the Canadian Top Chef TV show, I kind of had raised my expectation. The only thing I can say is that the food was incredible and has met all my expectations. We ordered the rabbit, carpaccio and soup as starters. They were so good and had blown my mind. For the main course, we had duck breast, pork belly, mussels and mushroom risotto. Again, the food were perfectly done. The deco of the restaurant is also nicely done and the service is good. We were lucky enough to be served by the chef’s wife. She knows every dishes, their ingridents and it is what I expect from a 5 star restaurant. What a nice lady! The wine list is good and we somehow ordered two bottles of very good wine. One local BC wine and one French. They are around $40 in Hudson but are charged much more in other restaurants.
