The masthead has been on my bookmark list for a LONG time and I finally had the chance to try it last night. It didn’t let me down! They have a beautiful spot in Cow bay overlooking the harbour and the restaurant inside is beautiful. It’s a great place to take a date. The server was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and I couldn’t fault her if I tried, excellent service throughout!Their drinks menu is extensive and they have lots of local wines on offer, which I love. They had a local blend just for their restaurant which I tried and it was fantastic. Very refreshing and light and went perfectly with my meal, it was called ‘Floozie’. Try it!I ordered from the fixed menu which was 3 courses for $35… a real deal! For starters I had the butternut squash ravioli, which was divine. They were perfectly cooked and the vegetables and sauce was perfection. I could have eaten 10 bowls. For my main, I had the salmon and mussels, both were very nice and cooked well. the salmon could have done with a little more seasoning. The broth was lovely and the rice was very nice. I didn’t care much for the vegetable pot it came with.My friend had the braised beef pasta, which was AMAZING! Very rich and creamy and perfectly cooked again. The only let down was the dessert. It was some sort of hard berry compote in pastry, which was very cold and just not that great. The coconut cream on top though was to die for. i finished off my meal with a delicious local dessert wine from Averill Creek. Again, you HAVE to try it. the perfect combination of tart and sweet.I would go back here in a heartbeat! It was a wonderful experience and a real gem of a place on our island.

The staff was very accommodating. We were late because my baby girl did not want to go to sleep. They close at 9pm on a Wed. We called and let them know we would be late could we still come? They had no problem with that as long as we were there before 9.The view was spectacular, Cowichan bay marina and the hills. The menu was superb, I had a hard time making a choice between the wonderful dishes. The food is excellent, well seasoned and delicious.Hats off to the chef!! We had a wonderful time and will probably make the Masthead our new special occasions restaurant!

Our Favourite. We go here on most special occasions as it is about 25 minutes from our house. My wife enjoys the Crab or Lobster, but I strictly stick to their delicious succulent duck breast. It is incredible. Will be going here for years to come!

Came in for my 9th anniversary with my wife with no reservation at 6pm. Had no problem getting a nice table. Great atmosphere, low light, great views. Food was hot and fast. Bacon pastry didn’t have bacon and duck confit poutine was a bit skint on the cheese but otherwise great food and great service and a great price. 29.99 for three course . Sported a very diverse wine menu. One server was super friendly, the other a bit ageist to us as a younger couple.

Born and raised Vancouverite, you can say I’ve been offered plenty when it comes to food whilst im downtown roaming. However, the Masthead rises above any other restaurant with the quality if ingredients, preparation, atmosphere, taste, EVERYTHING ! I’d say even worth the trip over.

Evening Meal. By chance came across the Masthead Restaurant over the Easter Weekend. They fitted us in as we were just passing and saw that they had just opened the doors. Within half and hour they were fully booked I assume by reservation. We asked for a soup from the chef’s three course meal that was quite explicit that one could not chop and change the menu. No problems there and the soup was well presented and very tasty. My wife had the duck and I had the steak. Again well presented and very tasty. Finished it off with a warm chocolate sponge with rasberry sorbet, and two spoons, very nice. All washed down with a British Shandy. (Stella & Sprite). Well worth a visit.

Disappointment. We went back again this Christmas and I have to say I don’t relish going back, The waiter – possibly the owner – was unresponsive, no sense of humor or even enjoyment. The crab was very small for the price and nothing special. To be treateed like that when taking guests with us and for the amount of mone we ate and drank, I think they need a bit of a shake up – we won’tbe back.
