So my review is good and bad and that’s why I’ve only rated it 3.5.Firstly, I went there today with a friend for lunch and as we walked in, we had a somewhat strange greteting like they were closed or something, but they were not.Looking around the decor was quite nice, not into the artwork personally but it was kind of funky. The tables were completely empty, no candle or little plant or anything so it did feel a bit odd and like it was ready for people to be eating there. That said, once we sat down, the service was very nice and the server recommended a beer and gave us a taster which was very nice and also local, which i appreciate.I ordered the chicken and waffles and my friend ordered the Burger.Bad first: The chicken was dry and bland and the waffles were thin and not fluffy at all, they had a nice flavour but the size of the serving was also disappointing and I personally didn’t like how it was presented on basically a cheese slate.Good: My friends burger was probably one of the tastiest burgers I’ve ever tried in my life. The truffle mayo really made the flavour of the burger pop and it was also cooked to perfection, still a little pink in he middle and very juicy. The brioche bun was also delicious. The arugula on top really finished it off nicely. I would absolutely come back just for the burger, drinks and service and to try out the dinner menu. The chicken and waffles however should be scrapped, it wasnt tasty and felt like it didn’t belong on that menu.
Food was pretty good. We had the charcuterie platter. The wine was great, but very expensive. The local wines per 9oz glass cost the same as going to the winery and buying a bottle. Then the bill arrived. They charged us $2 for bread that we had assumed came with the charcuterie- which we didn’t order. When we mentioned it, the item was removed but we were told the waitress must have ‘assumed’ we wanted bread. So you charge extra on assumptions? Unacceptable. An apology would have been proper.
Delicious Food and Gracious, Attentive Service. We attended the Old Firehouse for a Winemakers Dinner featuring wines from Avrill Creek and had a wonderful evening. The four course meal with a different featured wine for each course was superb with each course being beautifully plated and absolutely delicious. Combined with attentive service and the owner of Avrill creek’s comments about each wine and winemaking in general it was a completely enjoyable occasion.Top marks to the owner, Jeff, his staff and the chef’s for a well done event in their comfortable, attractive venue.
First Choice!. Not to long ago my wife and i decided to drop by and have dinner here. Food was delicious, the owner is constantly making rounds to make sure everyone is enjoying their plates and drinks. Now my wife and i go every couple weeks.
