Much improved Highly recommended. I was dragged back to this restaurant under protest and Im glad I was. I have left my negative review up from 4 years ago. This is now one of my favorite north shore restaurants. The quality of the food combined with excellent service, presentation and generous portions would be enough to bring me back. However their pricing is comparable to Earls / Trattoria with a far superior offering.12 Feb, 2010Disappointing. Nice room, service is great if you have one of the owner / managers not if you don’t. The food needs a lot of work. Gusto di Quattro is much, much better.
Sleeper Italian Spot in West Vancouver. Having already rented a guest house in West Van, I didn’t want to travel to the city. So, it was an easy to drive to this spot on Marine Drive. By the looks of the wine list I immediately lowered my expectations (very basic, big distributor type list). My wife wanted the Guinea Hen and I thought that was an ambitious: it was outstanding. GET THE GUINEA HEN!! Better than ones we’ve had in Southern France. Seared to perfection, plump, moist and delicious. Pasta appeared to be homemade. Pesto was definitely handmade albeit a little too salty. Caprese salad was delicious, fresh and well seasoned (I don’t like the minimal approach to this dish). Patio dining with summer Vancouver weather. A little Rose, a little white wine. Unexpected home run.
Disappointed and Hungry. I organised a ladies dinner for 7 at Mania E Bevi based on a recommendation from another friend. The restaurant was nicely decorated, and had a good atmosphere – but that was about it. We waited 45 minutes before our sever took our dinner orders, and I ordered a past dish that was noted in the menu as being in olive oil as I cannot eat tomatoes so I knew to avoid many of the other dishes. The dish came with sundried tomatoes, so I requested to remove the sundried tomatoes when I ordered. Our meals arrived in a timely manner, but my pasta was under-cooked and in a tomatoe sauce (which I was unaware of when I ordered and wrongly assumed the server would tell me when I requested no tomatoes). Plus, a friend had ordered a sirloin medium-well…it arrived rare. We both sent our meals back, and I requested my dish in a cream sauce that did not include tomatoes. Within 10 minutes our new meals arrived…the sirloin was cooked to perfection this time, but again my pasta was undercooked and they had made the executive decision to serve me an entirely new menu item rather than what I had requested. The new dish contained duck and large number of mushrooms, which I also cannot eat. I told the server that it was a dish that I could not eat, and he removed it. I was not offered another dish, and was not seen by a manager at all. At this point the entire table had finished eating and we had been at the restaurant for over 2 hours – and still I had no food that I was able to eat. We received our bill and the server came over to kindly tell me that they had removed my order from the bill – which I would hope so as I did not actually eat anything. No manager came to talk to us, no offer of additional ways to make up for the mess up were offered and my friends and I left bewildered. Needless to say, we will not be visiting this restaurant again – scattered service, and sub-par food at an exceptionally high price.
Buonissimo. Unlike some of the reviewers, we came across Mangia e Bevi by way of the internet… boy were we pleasantly surprised~we very much enjoyed our special Valentine’s treat.the food was quite delicious. we started with the mussels, followed by the truffle and cream tagliatelle pasta, leaving room to savor the succulent secondi: the cognac mushroom filet of beef. all the flavors were delectable. Our only minor complaint would be that the filet, while perfectly cooked and tender, when contrasted to the other dishes, was a bit lackluster and bland. All in all, topping off our meal with a classic limoncello, we left the restaurant delightfully and deliriously satiated.
