The atmosphere and service made it feel like a fine dining experience. We went for lunch. I recommend the wine and/or beer flight as we tried one of each. We both ordered various appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Each one was well presented, and meticulously crafted. I liked that the back of the house was also trained to work in the front. This way, everyone know what was going on.
Bistro 101 is located on 2nd Avenue. It’s a nice location with a view of Granville Island. Bistro 101 is a restaurant runs by culinary students from Pacific Institute of Culinary Art. The students who train here get to work in a real life setting in a restaurant. Food is cooked by the students, and you will be serving by students too. This is a pretty neat concept.I got impressed by quality and flavour done by the students, but if I were to evaluate on restaurant quality I would give it a 3.5 stars. This is because the service was a little bit slow, and the food consistency was a little off sometimes.Food: Should Try! Service: Price: $30-$50 for twoPresentation: Parking: Would I Return: Maybe Explore the menu: Wild Mushroom Soup with Italian Parsley & Truffe Oil, Seared Arctic Char, Pear Verrine

Bistro 101 is currently offering a $20 3-course menu in celebration for their 20th year anniversary (their regular menu $25, which is already a bargain). Reservations were a bit difficult due to their understandable popularity, but well worth the trouble. Our server was quite attentive and friendly. I had their Rainbow Trout Rillettes as an appetizer, Duck Confit as my main, and Orange Milk Chocolate Pav for dessert. In addition to the 3 courses, we were also provided with a complementary bread basket and an amuse bouche.Complementary Bread: 5/5; The basket contained an assortment of buns, bread, and crackers, all of which were fresh (i.e. still warm) and delicious.Rainbow Trout Rillettes: 4/5; I was expecting some form of pate, and this seemed to be more like flaked trout mixed with some mayonnaise-like dressing, kind of similar to what you find in tuna/salmon sandwiches (though not in a bad way). I also think that it would probably be better served on some cracker/toast rather than alone on a plate. Nevertheless, it was still quite delicious.Duck Confit: 3/5; The duck itself was quite good, and had a really nice crispy skin topped with some tangy citrus sauce. The meat was a bit on the tough side and slightly under-seasoned for me (I do have a rather salty palate). Unfortunately, the risotto that it was served with seemed to be under-cooked. While I don’t mind having rice with some chew, the rice in this instance was still crunchy and not all enjoyable, and I ended up not finishing it.Orange Milk Chocolate Pav: 5/5; My favourite course of the evening, and not just because I love sweets. The pave was creamy and smooth, with a perfect level of sweetness, and a really nice chocolate crust at the bottom.. The citrus sorbet it was served with was bright and refreshing. A perfect ending to the meal. The portions were, predictably, on the smaller side considering that the meal cost only $20 (or $25). While I wasn’t hungry after the meal, I wasn’t exactly full either. If you have a good appetite, be sure to fill up on their bread.
Been there twice during the Vancouver dine out event. Good value with the price we paid and the food were better than expected. Highly recommended.
Good, somewhat experimental food at an excellent price ($30 3 courses).Salmon Tartar aperitif with miso glaze: good tasting salmon and flavours, texture slightly too crunchy/uneven.Tiger prawns in carrot puree: Only so-so: prawns dry and overcooked, but puree was pleasantly sweetBeef Carpaccio with truffle oil sauce: his favourite from the night, great flavours from the beef and truffle sauce.Sous vide lamb sirloin: This was good: cooked perfectly medium rare, very juicy and not gamey. Delicious crisps to accompany. Not a fan of the green garlic sauce.Duck a l’orange: duck was cooked well but lacked flavour.White chocolate passionfruit pave: This was good. We were not fans of the passion fruit, which was too sweet, but the white chocolate mousse was nice. Although it was more like a pudding than a mousse in texture.
I booked a table 5 days before which is April 27; at that time, I confirm about it for at least 2 times. But when I called again,(cause I know this restaurant is very difficult to make a reservation) another lady told me there is no my name on the list! What the FXXX??? If you couldn’t make it, why do you promised? I will NEVER come to this place! NEVER EVER! And also told all my friends not to come! Soooo disappointed about this restaurant!
