Curry 2 U -> Curry 4 me -> never again. Walk down to Granville Island and delight in the myriad of scents and smells wafting from vendors’ stalls, a veritable cornucopia of everything that awakens the gourmet chef in all of us. But without a skittle in tow and your appetite in need of immediate gratification, you, led by your frenetic taste buds, attack the food court. What to have, what to have? Today I landed on Indian food and the Curry 2 U stall. Something spicy(beef), good rice base to carry me through till dinner, perfect…or so I thought.Yikes! Bland, mundane and plain dished out by a cheerless spoon wielding counter countess. Not the greatest of experiences and there are lots of choices down there. This one I would pass on, keep walking and find satisfaction for your taste buds elsewhere, trust me, they’ll thank you for it!
THE FOOD IS JUST A SLOP!
Nasty, Brutish and Thankfully Short.. For the prices charged, they could certainly afford to NOT skimp on portions. I mean, this is a take-out buffet tray style 2 item combo deal. Usually, the only thing that these place have going for themselves is that they heap on the portions. They even skimped on the RICE here…. seriously….Mercifully though, smaller portions meant that I had to endure less of the tasteless slop that they try to pass off as Indian curry. Go to ANY of this stall’s neighbours for a better experience.
Unappetizing. Bland, greasy and indifferent service. What less could one ask for?The butter chicken… let’s just say I’ve had better butter chicken sauce out of a jar.
Curry No Thank You. Just ate here for lunch and had the chicken frankie, which was described as spicy Mumbai-style chicken with tamarind chili mayo in a roti wrap. I was instantly turned off when my server pulled the chicken wraps out of the fridge and popped them in the microwave for two minutes. That’s when I knew I had made the wrong choice. Anyways, the ‘roti’ wrap itself resembled more of a whole wheat tortilla, and was filled with spiced ground chicken which was very dry. Had I known it was filled with ground chicken I wouldn’t have ordered it in the first place, however spicy Mumbai-style chicken sounded good on paper. There was no tamarind-chili mayo to be found, which was the other component that originally intrigued me, and the wraps (you get two) were served with an average raita and some tamarind sauce. The sauces made the wraps somewhat palatable. I can’t speak to the quality of their other offerings, but after this meal I won’t be going back.
Pricey with small portion. I’ve got their closing special for 3 dishes+rice. I’ve picked butter chicken, mango cream mushroom, and the lentils something that she suggested. You need to add extra for butter chicken ($1.87??) and it doesn’t come with naan too. I’ve also got a mango lassi. It was good but the total came up to $13.13. There was too little rice and I got some French Bread across in order to dip the sauce. I like the mango sauce better than the butter chicken. The butter chicken was too cream and it was not spicy at all. I would like to go back but it was too pricey for food court food with such a small portion.
Tried one of the grab-and-go wraps there, and I was not impressed, it was bland and soggy. Had I known the wraps were ready-made and would just be microwaved to oblivion I would have picked something else.
