This place used to be amazing but since the new ownership it’s really gone downhill. The food looks sad, I bought a salad and it had a hair in it, and the coffee is barely warm. The place used to be packed all the time from the surrounding offices but there’s barely anyone going there anymore. Save yourself the trouble and go across the street to one of the other cafes.
The simple but surprisingly rare joy of a proper & wholesome homemade sandwich stuffed with fresh, good quality ingredients at a perfectly reasonable price. The sandwiches are nothing too special, but vastly superior in terms of price / quality compared to any other place, especially chain restaurants. You wouldn’t make a special trip to visit this place, but for those of us who work around here, this mom & pop shop is an absolute blessing – just a load of honest goodness here.
Really fallen off under new ownership. I love this place and eat here all the time. That said, Duke’s has really fallen off in terms of service since they changed ownership. The food is mostly the same in quality but it now takes 2-3 times as long to get your order than it used to. So if it used to take 5 minutes, now it takes 15. That kind of wait time during lunch is really bad. I’d go to Deja Brew on Broadway and Oak for high quality sandwiches served fast enough to finish lunch in 30 minutes.
Great lunch spot!. Excellent for quick work lunches! 1/2 sandwich and soup or salad is great value. Fresh ingredients, tasty food. Good for a fast lunch!
Yummy Coffee – Gross Bagel. Okay, this is only the second time I have been there , the first time I only ordered a coffee, which was yummy. This time I had a terrible bagel. How can you mess up a bagel?Rip it open with your glove-less fingers instead of cutting it, take a reallllllyyyy long time to make it by forgetting about it in the toaster, and then spread a tiny amount of cream cheese on only one half and then squish it together , wrap it hap-haphazardly and don’t put a napkin in the bag. This sounds like I might be an insane person to get so worked up about a bagel, but I’m telling you it was really bad. I used to work in a coffee shop/cafe for over 5 years when I was younger – and you can tell a lot about a place from little things like this. In customer service you need to deliver a great product each time, or you may not get a return customer and your bagel eater will feel sad. There are lots of little coffee and sandwich places in this area and I would suggest going to a different one.
The best sandwiches. I love the turkey carver with cranberry chutney, chicken salad and La Duke–smoked meat on pretzel bread.. Great service and they deliver around the local area at lunchtime. I highly recommend a visit!
Excellent lunch fare!. Wonderful gourmet sandwiches at this location. Would love to try breakfast next time!
