Locally owned by family who cares about quality food and service. Food is traditional and delicious. Bread with olive oil is served at table in place of pita. Three words: fresh, flavourful and full! Above average pricing for Greek food in this town but food is good, mainly the calamari which is best I’ve had. Make a reservation as always busy with locals. There’s a reason this restaurant is rated one of the best in town. Owners will occasionally dance and play traditional music. Quite the party atmosphere. Will even personalize and paint a plate for traditional breaking on special occasion. The celebratory smashing symbolizes how family and friendship means more than anything material. To the things that matter most in life: good company and a full belly. Opa!
Fabulous food – great service ; reserve ahead otherwise it is extraordinarily busy most evenings. This is my fourth visit this year. I ordered the roast lamb and the ekmek for dessert (square of sweet custard-like dessert) as these are my favorites. The dolmades and keftedes meatballs are also very enjoyable. The lamb is tender and usually comes with roasted vegetables. Very busy and a happening place. After 8-8:30pm, the owners often will serenade you at your table, and play live music, with lots of clapping and cheering. Family-oriented; great for kids, groups, pairs. Can be noisy.
Really fun place to go, mingle and eat. A busy place. Nice, spacious greenhouse like main dining room, lots of windows. Our young male server was quite an extraverted guy. All in a really fun, positive way.He connected with my father in regards to the Kenora Thistles hockey team of all things and our table had such a great time talking and joking and laughing about our shared experiences,… it took the whole evening to a different level.Oh yes. The food. It was really good.Nothing off the chart exceptional in that department.Everything was good.As the evening went on the servers started really getting into it and pretty soon they had a line dance going on IN the crowded dining room.Ahhh. Wow.Those greeks know how to have a great time.(Note:This isnt the only greek restaurant Ive been in where the owners/staff break out into a party?!)The next logical level was for the servers to start pouring us all Ozo shots and while that didnt happen Im pretty sure it probally has and does happen here.Just saying. Not sure what else to type,…this is just a fantastic and fun place to spend some time,…and get a decent feed of greek food.
Amazing restaurant, don’t miss this one. I went here with my family to celebrate my partner’s and sister’s birthdays. From the moment you walk in the door everything is Fantastic. The decor is cute Greek theme, huge windows and beautiful patio makes it bright and airy. The service is fantastic, very friendly. The owners are out on the floor the whole time interacting with customers, bussing tables, and being fully engaged in their business. The food is fantastic! All very well cooked, very fresh, generous portions. Absolutely awesome experience, we will all definitely be back. One word of warning, make reservations- it is very popular!
After a family member recommending this restaurant, and reading positive reviews online, we decided to give Ithaka a try.First off, upon entering, we were greeted right away by the owner’s son; it felt like we were being hosted in someone’s home. After being seated, our waiter introduced himself as Demetri, and took our drink order. My wife and I were very impressed with the way he joked with our 2 year old son. Demetri was courteous, professional, and came across as very genuine. We ordered the spanakopita dinner and the chicken souvlaki dinner. I have to say, it tasted exactly like what I had eaten when I traveled in Greece. The food was light, and incredibly fresh tasting. I’ve been to other Greek restaurants where I felt bloated and heavy after my meal. That was not the case at Ithaka. I had a glass of Greek wine (house wine), but I cannot recall the name. In any case, again, it was good and did not have an overwhelming restsinated flavour. After finishing our meal, the owner and his brother stopped by our table to make sure we enjoyed our meals. They were not intrusive or pretentious; again, it really left the impression that they genuinely cared about our overall experience. We will definitely go back in the future.
Probably the best lamb shoulder I have ever had. Literally melt in your mouth home cooked tender delicious goodness. All our food was excellent, from the meatball appy to the spanakopita to the veal parm, this is without a doubt the best Greek restaurant in Victoria. You will love the ambiance, they have a fun, festive, party atmosphere and they treat you like family. Absolutely perfect in every regard.
A friendly family restaurant. We had fun watching the guys doing the opa dance and that was the highlight of our evening at Ithaka. To start, we ordered the kalamari to share. I had no clue what I was eating, just a pile of tiny tasteless squid. We also had the avgolemono (lemon chicken broth) that came with our dinner. Instead of a tangy lemon broth, I only tasted a bland soup with very few orzo.My moussaka was huge, but it’s more of a shepherds pie than moussaka. Hubby’s roast lamb fared a bit better, but certainly not slow cooked to be melted in the mouth tender. Finally, the baklava. After the disappointing app and mains, I didn’t have high hope for the dessert. But, it was almost like what we had in Greece, the only dish I managed to finish.I lived in the MED for a few years, time to go back for some real, traditional food.
