Bookstore/coffee shop/restaurant in Fort Langley! I’ve been here twice so this review will be updated as I visit. So this is what my rating is so far! Came here one evening a few months ago for a nice cup of early grey tea and a slice of chocolate cake! Cake was a little too sweet so only had half but I’m sure it would’ve been perfect for someone with a bigger sweet tooth than me! Took a browse in the bookstore after and actually bought a couple of cute things for gifts! Cute little store 🙂 Came here last weekend in the evening for a stroll and had the peanut butter Rice Krispie square! The Rice Krispie was way to hard 🙁 it looked delicious and the size was seven for the price but all in all it was too hard and the peanut butter didn’t go well with the Rice Krispie. Some things are just meant to be kept simple, and this was one of those things. The place was super packed, ppl inside and outside on the patio enjoying their lovely looking dinners! All entrees we saw served had a side of salad which looked amazing! Everyone looked happy and looked like they were enjoying their visit! I haven’t given up yet so I will be back! But this time, I will go for something savoury! Yet another to be continued review!
Small cozy bookstore cafe in historic Fort Langley. I enjoy visiting the village because it reminds me of the island. Wendel’s has been a fixture in Fort Langley for over 20 years and we have been regular customers for that long. I usually order the portobello mushroom burger: balsamic glazed with caramelized onions and roasted garlic aioli on a pretzel bun – be warned it’s a messy one. Soups are homemade and quite good. Some menu items can be tad pricey per portion size (note the grilled cheese). Wendel’s has always been the hot spot in the village but it’s become hectically popular as of late. We have seen quality waver at times over the past year or so due to the constant busyness of the cafe and the growth of The Fort in general. It’s no longer the quiet hideaway it used to be. Recently we have had some disappointing breakfasts with reheated or undercooked hash potatoes and smaller takeout portion sizes, which is a let down as regulars. We now just visit the bookstore side on weekends and during the summer and pass over the cafe because it’s so busy and a wait for a seat can take a long time. There’s lots of new restaurants to try as the area grows and modernizes. The owners should expand or think of reorganizing things…All in all Wendel’s is a worth a visit.Almost always a full house, bustling with locals and visitors. A tight, awkward layout with minimal seating so expect a lineup at the counter and a wait for a table.
Never had a bad well… Anything here. I think their entrees are totally under-advertised and under-appreciated–they are great quality, made with amazing ingredients, and very flavourful! It is honestly the best place to eat in The Fort
Wow…Chicken and Avocado Wrap!. A friend of mine was raving about ths place. I said eh…what’s the big deal it looks pretty typical but the line up was very long. So the thing that caught my eye was the chicken avocado wrap, turns out that’s my friends favorite too so I went for it. Wow…really fresh ingredients nice and warm when it was served and very delicious really good balance of flavours. The avocado definitely was the highlight of this wrap. If you like avocados you have to try this. Lemonade was very refreshing as well. Meals come with a garden salad and a choice of dressing. I chose the balsamic vinaigrette, the vinaigrette looked more on the creamy side but it was still pretty tasty.
Noncomplicated food and the drinks are great too. As a Fort Langley resident, me and my bf come here on a regular basis. The quality of the drinks are great; the espresso is so much better than Starbucks. Breakfast is pricey but good quality; even though they have a good menu selection I always get the oatmeal (boring, I know, but they make it better than I can) or the vegetarian eggs benedict.
Used to be good food until the owner decided to start bulk packaging the food and selling it to big supermarkets. Guess that’s the price of big business.Used to be good and now it’s not. No parking, filthy floors and long waits on plastic furniture, assuming you can find a table…
Lovee. I have been going to Wendels for years and absolutely love it. As a gluten-free vegetarian this place has tons of great options. Everything I have ever tried is delicious, its nice to have a good meal and I can even have dessert if I like, which is also super tasty! Also has a great vibe and staff!
